Jimmy Choo For H&M Is Almost Here!

imageFinally, the day is almost here! The Jimmy Choo collection is the first time H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand and we think it’s a pretty fabulous brand to go for on a first try! And it sounds like quite a bit of work went into making this happen. According to Tamara Mellon, the founder and president of Jimmy Choo, “It was a challenge for us to create high-quality pieces at an H&M price point.” We believe it! And since the line is more than just shoes and accessories, it will definitely be different from the traditional Jimmy Choo line. We’re interested to see how the line fares for H&M. We think it will be hugely popular (we hear they’re giving out wristbands for opening day!), but have to wonder if it will cheapen the Jimmy Choo brand as a whole. Clearly Mellon doesn’t think so, or we’re sure she wouldn’t have agreed to the collaboration. She said, “It was H&M’s idea to [do clothes], and as soon as they said it, I really wanted to do it.” It will definitely allow them to meet a whole new audience; that’s for sure! Make sure to check it out when it arrives on November 14! Check back with Limelife for more news on designer collabos!

Saks Fifth Avenue Hosts Contemporary Accessories Breakfast In NYC

imageBagels and lox might be many people’s preferred morning meal but on Thursday, October 15, the menu was bagels and Botkier as Saks Fifth Avenue hosted a special contemporary accessories breakfast for bloggers at their Fifth Avenue flagship store. New pieces from Marc by Marc Jacobs, Chan Luu, Rebecca Minkoff, and Belle by Sigerson Morrison, among others, were just some of the tasty choices on order. Beyond the inspired idea of collectively featuring shoes and handbags to compare and contrast each designer’s work, what the event also helped highlight is how very heavily labels are relying on accessories to carry them through a tough fall and winter: the vast majority of the pieces were both well-designed and functional. Take, for example, Kooba: gone are the whimsical, unwieldy shapes of seasons past, and in their place far more structured, wearable silhouettes in subdued yet elegant colors. There were pops of color within the resort pieces, of course (a patent neon orange Rebecca Minkoff was a fave), but even those items retained a classic sensibility that makes it clear this is a time when people are looking for quality investment pieces that will go the distance in their closets. Practical materials such as rubber, thick leather, and viscose abounded yet no one scrimped on style–and everything remained at a reasonable contemporary price point. Take a look at the slideshow for some of the standouts.

Jean Paul Gaultier Is Next Up For Target!

imageJean Paul Gaultier is doing a Target collection, reports The Cut via WWD. The over-the-top designer’s collection will be available at more than 250 Target stores across the country and Target.com on March 7 through April 11. Following Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui, Gaultier is the third established designer to do a collection for the mass retailer under the Designer Collaboration series. His chosen muse? The American woman, “celebrating the forces of style both past and present in American pop culture,” a Target spokesperson says. I remember being thrilled by Gaultier’s risque designs as a young girl (Madonna’s cone-bra corset comes to mind). My mother’s dislike of his iconic female/male perfume bottles only made me want them more; both still sit prominently displayed in my glass bathroom cabinet. This Frenchman holds a special place in my heart so I look forward to what he’ll bring to Target audiences.

Feather Report: New iPhone App To Help You Get Dressed!

imageFashion + Weather = Feather. My friend Melisa of Feather Report and The Lil Bee has just launched the Feather Report iPhone app. Look to it as your own portable, personal style consultant. You’ll never have to look out the window and wonder, “What am I gonna wear today?” It’s rainy today in SF and this is the outfit that was picked out for me. I love it! What’s great is that each of the items listed in the outfit for today are linked so you can purchase them directly from your iPhone. If I like today’s outfit, I can easily save it to my favorites with a press of a button. I love to get exposed to new pieces of clothing and how to put them all together. Using a GPS weather tracker, Feather Report serves up a new outfit to your iPhone each day, based on your specific location. Outfits are categorized based on body types, occasions, and weather patterns. You can also search for outfits based on your individual needs such as Date Night, Out with the Girls, etc. If you’re traveling, get weather forecasts for your upcoming trips. Sounds cool? Get a chance to win the Feather iPhone app for free by clicking over to our friends at Coquette!

Show Your Sense Of Humor This Halloween Without Sacrificing Your Sexy Side!

imageSure, there’s no sexier quality than your stellar sense of humor, but some Halloween costumes that are meant to be hysterical are also seriously unattractive. We’ll try to ignore that time you went as “junk in the trunk” with a pillow shoved down the back of your pants… and let’s face it — the Mary Katherine Gallagher from “Superstar” ensemble definitely didn’t get you any dates. Luckily there are store-bought costumes available that will allow you to be the true renaissance woman that you are: funny, stylish, and sexy, and maybe not so crafty, but no one’s perfect. Pay homage to a comedic character like a feisty cop on Reno 911, or give fellow party-goers a dose of 80s nostalgia in a sexy Ghostbusters get-up! You may not end up looking quite as skimpy as everyone else in attendance, but hey — the goal is to show off your personality! Browse through the slideshow for a collection of ready-to-wear costumes that are both comedic and cute.

WhatsWear Has Discovered A Way To Tweet In Gold And Diamonds

imageTwitter just became a whole lot more relevant to me. For today I learned that Twitter can now be something I wear around my neck… in gold.. and diamonds. Survival of the Hippest is a hot new accessories line inspired by the same social networking system that caused Miley Cyrus to rap and LL to fight even more publicly with Samantha Ronson. Using your TwitterName (or “hashtag” comment if you know what the hell this is), SOTH creates beautiful jewelry — fairly reminiscent of the name necklaces made popular by Carrie Bradshaw. They are custom-made out of sterling silver, 14k gold and [drool] diamonds, and can be placed on a necklace, a key chain, a bracelet, an anklet or a pin. As SOTH pointed out, wearing your Twitter ID around a visible body part will helpfully point you out to your virtual friends, who they note “may not recognize you from your proper name or tiny Twitter picture”… seriously, a SOTH piece isn’t just fashionable, it is your gilded token to making actual flesh-and-blood friends! Also, we must mention these necklaces and bracelets work perfectly as a fun layering piece or as a unique present for your friend who has everything. You can even show these Twitterific pieces to your grandchildren while explaining the Twitter phenomenon. Think about it, they’ll most likely be vintage in just a couple decades! When you’re not busy tweeting, don’t forget to visit our friends at WhatsWear for more unique design finds!

Rock Out Like Rihanna For Halloween!

imageThis Halloween, I thought our favorite Barbadian songstress Rihanna would be a great inspiration for a costume. What better time to unleash the diva in you and get adventurous with your clothing? Rihanna is always wearing something experimental, fashion forward and never cookie cutter. My costume inspiration for Rihanna is from a tour she did last year which is a little less daring than her current outfits, but you’ll be surprised at how many pieces of clothing that’s already in your closet you can use! Start off with a shiny silver bustier or corset like the one I found from Charlotte Russe. Add a pair of liquid leggings or faux leather pants, leather boots, black fingerless gloves and a few chunky silver cuffs and you’re set! If you don’t have Rihanna’s signature sleek short black hair, grab a wig and style it appropriately. Take a peek at my slideshow to see how you can become Rihanna (without all the drama, of course). Best part is, nothing in my slideshow is over $50! Photo credit: PR Photos

Travel Around The World In The Comfort Of Your Own Home!

imageIt’s time to spice things up at home, and not just in the bedroom either! While we would all love to be jet-setters and fly off to exotic places halfway across the world, it is not a possibility for many of us due to money, time or both. Although the mysticism of far away lands may be enticing, but not quite within reach at the moment, these sumptuous luxuries and richly saturated materials can be brought back and enjoyed in your own home. With ethnic African and safari-inspired prints that make your living area feel like a trip to the savannah, richly saturated and beautifully decorated rugs and home accents that make you feel like you’re laying back in a Persian palace, and the minimalist sophistication of Asian-inspired pieces that help give you a peaceful and meditative state, you can take a trip around the world in the comfort of your own home. Click on the slideshow to see some home decor that will add the alluring glamour of distant destinations to your living space.
