Give The Gift Of Gorgeousness With My 10 Favorite Beauty Sets!

imageAs any beauty addict knows, brand name makeup doesn’t come especially cheap. When restocking on your favorite MAC lipglass or Urban Decay eyeshadow primer, the price you pay per item doesn’t necessarily burn a hole in your wallet (after all, you can’t skimp on essentials!), but when it comes to gifting, makeup items can easily run you over budget even after just a couple of pots of eyeshadow. This is exactly why I gotta give praise to one of my favorite retail-related inventions ever: value sets! Themed for the holidays or just packaged as an always-festive good deal, gift sets from our favorite department store brands combine brand favorites into one beauty bundle and help you save big bucks (to spend on more makeup, of course!). If you have someone on your list who can’t get enough lip gloss, how about something from Shu Uemura’s Holiday Collection by Tsumori Chisato? Or if you know a gal who loves everything Lancome, consider their all-inclusive Holiday Beauty Box! Take a look at more of my favorite value gift sets in the slideshow!

Shoe Of The Week: Alexander Wang Natasha Pumps

imageNowadays when you have designers like Thakoon manufacturing mirror sandals and McQueen debuting claw-like hoof creations that only Lady GaGa can feasibly walk in, it’s difficult finding a shoe silhouette that’s both refreshingly unique and truly wearable. Enter the Natasha Pumps by Alexander Wang. An interesting cross-breed between a classic platform pump and a bootie, the pair is still edgy in its pebbled texture and sculpted 4.5-inch heel but won’t have conservative passers-by wondering which drag queen stage you jumped off of. Swap them with your normal black pumps and pair them with a cocktail dress (their height elongates legs more than ankle booties), or wear over a pair of textured tights!

What: the Alexander Wang Natasha Pumps
Price: $490

Stylehive Editors’ Holiday Wishlist: Idabone

imageHi, my name is Ida and I’m an impulsive shopper. I often spontaneously buy things on a whim because I just had to have it and add it to my closet or, more honestly, to the back of my closet, still wrapped in tissue and in the original shopper bag. No question about it, I must own it. So with this type of shopping habit, I thought that finding ten things to add to a wishlist would be easy. If anything, I’d have to par it down. Instead, it took me a long while to find items that were not just the impulsive shopper inside saying ‘Buy it! Buy it!’, but things that I would actually really want over other items. It’s a wishlist so there are a some items that are probably out of the price range for friends and family to even consider (or not! you never know!), plus I added some products that are very obtainable in case this list somehow accidentally ends up as an attachment to a family-wide Season’s Greetings email and someone decides to use it to pick out my gift. Here’s to a festive holiday season and hoping that I find majority of my wishlist under the tree come Christmas morning! Be sure to come back everyday this week to check out other Stylehive Editor’s wishlists for gift ideas or to add to your own!

Hot In The Hive: Dali Soft Watch In Gold

imageFashion, however timeless or of-the-moment, is just another form of art, a way for the designer and wearer to express their ideas and individuality through clothing. Fashion and fine art go hand in hand in terms of inspiration and expression, so it’s a wonder that we haven’t seen more examples showcasing this intersection of creativity. Sure, you can get tees and caps screen-printed with “Starry Night,” but it’s not often that you see a fine art piece turned into a wearable and stylish fashion piece. The Dali Soft Watch does just that. Salvador Dali is arguably the most well-known master of surrealism and his 1952 painting “The Disintegration Of The Persistence Of Memory” s one of the most popular and recognizable. The perfect fashion piece to portray this image? Well, a watch of course! The watch looks like a 3-D version of one of Dali’s melting clocks and comes in either silver or gold with a leather strap. It comes in a decorative Dali box and is the perfect timepiece for the art lover in your life!

Price: $120.00

10 Tuneful Gifts For The Music Lover On Your List!

imageIf you’re having a hard time getting in tune with your inner Santa Claus this gift-giving season, consider a foolproof present that won’t go in one ear and out the other. Music gifts — speakers, iPod accessories, memorabilia, USB gadgets, you name it — are something nearly everyone can appreciate and enjoy, but even if you have a hardcore musicophile or musician on your list, it’s fairly easy nowadays to find a unique music gadget gift that won’t end up in their “return” pile. If you’ve got a serious music collector on your hands, consider gifting a vintage vinyl record they can add to their library of retro tunes. Or, if you have a musically-inclined friend or family member who can’t be separated from his or her Wii system, refuel their addiction with DJ Hero, the latest in the series of melody-making gaming. Check out the slideshow for the rest of the music-related gifts that musicians and their fans can enjoy!

Get Holiday Party Ready With Non-Traditional Lace!

imageLace isn’t just for gothic looks and wedding gowns. It’s perfect for any occasion! Lace can be soft and feminine, or rocker-chic and super sexy, but the way to wear it now is in non-traditional ways with unexpected shapes and trimmings. Lace is always associated with opulence and glamour, but why should something so cool be so out of reach? There’s plenty of daytime lace like LnA’s t-shirt with a lace inlay, or YARNZ printed lace knit scarf and hat. Lacy, studded pumps and lace vests are totally ladylike-meets-rock and roll and can spice up even the primmest of pencil skirts. Standing out in a crowd of matte black tights is easy with lace tights or leggings; I especially love Emilio Cavallini’s take on the trend. If lace isn’t really your thing but you want to try it out, experiment with lace earrings and necklaces. Whether it’s a gold “lace” cuff or some peek-a-boo lace tights, there are endless ways to get the look this holiday season. Check out the slideshow for some more ideas.

Hit The Slopes (But Not Too Hard) In The Coolest Snowboard Gear Out There!

imageThe fashion-obsessed shopper side of me likes to think of snowboarding as an opportunity to try colors and patterns that I wouldn’t normally wear. Strangely enough, I never knew white pants were my thing until I saw them in snowboarding gear form. (I also never knew my legs could twist in so many directions while wearing said pants, but that’s another story.) You don’t necessarily need to match your jacket and pants to your gear, though a little bit of coordination is always good (both in the sartorial sense and the, um, sliding down a mountain sense). I’ve selected 10 essentials for anyone who’s looking to invest in their own snowboarding accessories, from boots and bindings to goggles and gloves, and don’t worry- you can almost always find these exact items on sale. Hot chocolate not included! See the slideshow for all of my picks.

Stylehive Editors’ Holiday Wishlists: xgalexy

imageWhen it comes to composing the ultimate wishlist, my motto is: give me everything I want and nothing I need! I mean, I have no problem shopping for fashion necessities, so this is my opportunity to dream big. Of course, I realize Santa isn’t rollin’ in dough (or is he?) and I don’t think the elves know how to assemble my favorite CoIe Haan handbag, so I tried to keep a balance of sensible and fantastical. I’ve got something for both my gamer and my girlie sides, and everything from the perfect party dress to a practical trench coat (with a not-so-practical price tag). View the slideshow for my 10 picks, including one particular “surprise” that I guess I’ll have to wait until February to unwrap (*wink, wink*)… and don’t forget to check back this week for more editor wishlists!

Hot In The Hive: Space Invaders Gift Wrap

imageYou might think it’s what’s inside the wrapping paper that counts (and the thought behind it, of course), but when it comes to making the distinction between one seriously awesome gift and the other seriously awesome gift right beside it under the tree, presentation is crucial! This Space Invaders Gift Wrap may be called “Dude Wrap” (maybe in an attempt to motivate your boyfriend to help you wrap presents, and not in newspaper), but I think it’s totally geeky-chic! Even if you have two left hands when it comes to wrapping presents, the gamer-themed paper is cool enough to make even the most wrapping-challenged gifters want to whip out the tape and scissors and toss out the gift bags and tissue paper! Of course, you might want to practice with something cheap first, because at $4.50 a sheet you’ll want to make sure the pixelated print doesn’t go to waste!

Price: $4.50
