Coquette – The Best Wedge Boots Under $150!

imageOne of the hottest trends for fall are wedge boots which give you a beautiful lift with the comfort of a wedge heel. I just picked up a pair of Zara Wedge Ankle Laced Boots in black for only $99.90. Rachel Bilson was wearing hers all over Milan Fashion week (pictured left). Love her beigy-gray version. Only black and brown are available here in the States. Let me say that these boots really are comfortable and I love how you can wear them folded down too as the model above in Zara’s Lookbook wears them. These versatile and stylish boots can go casual or dressed up in no time. These are the boots of the season! Call your nearby Zara store to see if they have them in stock still. I called last week and had them save me the last size 8 at the Post Street boutique in San Francisco.

imageThis content series post is brought to you by Nordstrom

Shoe of the Week – Etienne Aigner ‘Vivica’ Slingback

imageThe 1950s bring us back to days when ladylike looks of long full circle skirts and fitted cardigans were what really turned men on! Coiffed hair and cinched waists made the lady. Women dressed ‘smartly’ in the Fifties when a more conservative and lady like look was sexy way back when …

And while we here at Stylehive love our sky high stilettos as much as any fashion follower, we thought we’d give a nod to days gone by with these ‘Vivica’ Sling-backs by Etienne Aigner. These coy kitten heels feature a playful white polka dot print on a neutral taupe background with a big bow accent right at the peep toe. With a 2 and a half inch heel and comfy rubber soles, these sweet feminine shoes are as practical and ‘smart’ as the days that inspired them! Go retro!

Obsessing Over Fall’s Oxford Shoes

imageThe record breaking heat wave in Los Angeles recently has me daydreaming of fall weather; that lovely crisp chill in the air that turns the leaves and pumpkins orange. In my daydreams, I am strolling in a pumpkin patch, or a farmers market checking out the harvest’s goods. And always impeccably dressed, of course, in the best sweaters, scarves and oxford shoes the stores can offer and that I can’t currently touch with a 10 foot pole right now for fear of heatstroke. You may find it odd that in my daydreams, I am rocking a great pair of oxfords, rather than the latest and greatest boots, but for some reason, I’ve got oxfords on the brain! I love me some boots, and have a closet filled with them, but this year it is all about this menswear inspired, stylishly subtle shoe.

This borrowed-from-the-boys look has been co-opted for the girls, and these days comes in more than just your basic leather. I’ve been seeing them two-tone, patent, studded, floral, in unusual fabrications such as denim and I love them all! Depending on the style you choose, these trendy shoes can take you from day to night and look cute paired with all kinds of outfits.

Le sigh.

Until the days start getting cooler, I€™ll continue my fall-dreaming. Won’t you join me by clicking on the slideshow to see some fave oxford picks, perfect for the dreamers and those that are experiencing true autumn weather.

10 Basket Weave Shoes That Are Made For Summer!

imageI know Easter was like, over a month ago, but hear me out! Basket-inspired shoes are totally fashion-forward for the summer months ahead! A looser basket weave boasts chic cut-outs for maximum breathability for the hot weather to come, like these super-high wedges by Sam Edelman, while tighter-woven patterns like in these Cole Haan metallic pumps provide more texture than your typical solid heels. Woven shoes, whether in the form of casual flat sandals or a summer take on edgy peeptoe booties, seem to have a sort of automatic earthy vibe and give an extra dose of effortlessness to a meticulously-planned outfit. There’s a laidback, sort of “homemade” feel about them, in a cool way that you’d never be able to pull off if you actually tried to weave your own sandals! For further inspiration on how to get your weave on this summer, scope out my slideshow for my 10 favorite woven flats, sandals, and booties!

Fancify Your Footwear With A Pair Of Printed Pumps!

imageOMG, shoez. As if you need another reason to build up your footwear collection, I’m here to introduce you to the serious fierceness that is printed pumps. Kind of like the anti-nude pump that became everyone’s shoe staple over the year, these heels are all about standing out, not elongating your legs or coordinating with your outfit. We’re talkin’ abstract prints, candy-cane stripes, funky leopard, and even florals — these pumps are not about blending in! While pretty much anyone can rock the more expected (yet still fun!) snake print pumps by Kate Spade, it takes a little more confidence (and a bigger budget!) to rock something bright and geometric like these ridiculously stylish Alexander McQueens. Check out the slideshow for the 10 hottest (and wackiest!) printed pumps for the season!

Shoe Of The Week: Industry Aztec Sandal

imageWhat I love most about these Industry Aztec Sandals, exclusive to the Urban Outfitters site, is that they have the uncanny ability to combine like 3 summer trends in one: ankle cuffs, lace-up sandals, and a funky Aztec print. I’m definitely feelin’ the Southwest-inspired vibe with the upper’s geo pattern and snake-y texture, and I’m intrigued by the way they seem to be a sort of sandal-boot hybrid. They’d be perfect for roughing up an otherwise girlie summer outfit. However, at a rather steep $128 I’m a little reluctant, simply because they aren’t real leather — but I have to admit I haven’t seen anything else quite like them anywhere else!

Try Tassels As Toe-Candy For Footwear!

imageDon’t worry — we’re not you trade in your style for something more risqué a la Lil’ Kim. Finding kicks with tassels is a fun way to be on the brink of a an accessory that’s been hitting fashion mainstream everywhere from earrings to halter-tops. Tassels are an embellishment on some already-started trends: like the loafers of classic working-wear and the tribal flair of boho chic. Strappy sandals for spring and summer are certainly a perfect venue for the feather-like, leather frills, although they’re also an edgy accent to your evening heels, your everyday mules and your high-rise boots. For a way to really mold your style into a sharp, new look, flip through this slideshow of tassel-ized shoes!

Shoe Of The Week: Melissa ‘Coral’ Jelly Flat

imageNothing says summer style like the perfect pair of jellies. However, despite their season festiveness, they don’t always have the best reputation. Too flimsy, too cheap, too over-priced, or too sweaty, it’s hard to find a pair nowadays that you can rock comfortably without looking like a bad 90s flashback. While these Melissa ‘Coral’ Jelly Flats are a little on the expensive side considering they’re, well, rubber, I appreciate them because they don’t pretend to be something they’re not. Inspired by a coral reef, the unique texture of these flats makes them perfect for beachy vacays and summer strolls because they embrace the fact that they’re jellies instead of disguising themselves as normal flats or sandals or glass slippers like those Stuart Weitzmans. Just don’t try to wear them all summer long — they’re not quite easily-replaceable as those Gap Kids ones used to be back in the day!

You’re Bound To Love Ankle-Wrap Sandals For Summer!

imageNews flash: ankle-wraps aren’t just for ballet pointe shoes! Aside from the possibility of some rather “unique” tan lines, wrap sandals make for super-cute summer footwear, especially when it comes to accessorizing bare legs while you’re rockin’ a pair of short shorts or your favorite denim mini. Add height (and a bit of embellishment too) with a pair of ankle-wrap espadrille wedges like this Colin Stuart pair, or opt for some slightly more casual flats like these Jeffrey Campbell Batik sandals, which still pack quite a punch with their bright dyed print! Or to hit up the summer parties after the pool, these silk wrap sandals from Bebe put a sexy, dressy spin on the trend! Be careful when choosing the right pair, though — ankle wraps in general have the tendency to shorten legs, so unless you’re gifted with long, lean, supermodel-worthy legs, make sure to choose a style and color that’s flattering! After all, if they’re not making your calves look killer, what’s the point? Scope out the slideshow for a selection of my favorite wrap sandals!
