Shoe of the Week – Miista Heels

imageChange of season means – great excuse to splurge! For some of us, our weak spot is cookie dough, or maybe cute puppies, but for many of us that weak spot is awesome shoes!

Why not step into Spring with these Miista Haurache heels? A bit pricey, but worth every penny! Love ’em or hate ’em, one thing you can’t deny about these shoes is their eye-catching, unique appeal.
The blue is great for those spring days and pairs well with fun summer dresses like a white eyelet dress. The stacked heel and added platform creates a lot of comfort for your long strolls through the city and the lace gives extra support.

What’s extra cute about this shoe is the chord-woven detail which makes for an artsy look. Spring is begging for these babies to be worn!

Shoe of the Week – Jeffrey Campbell Architectural Wedge

imageWedges are my favorite heel because they are usually the most comfortable and even though they gives inches and inches of height, the actual rise from toe to heel is considerably shorter than with pumps or stilettos.

This particular Jeffrey Campbell shoe attracts the eye because of the stunning structural detail of the platform. The wood platform is very geometric with a notch at the back of the shoe and square heel instead of a curved, rounded shape. The interesting shape of the platform paired with the basic black leather upper makes for a really cool, modern shoe that€™s not too overwhelming but still makes a fun statement.

The shoe is interesting enough to work with a simple skinny leg pant or shift dress but the colors are super neutral so they€™ll work with any color. I would wear them with red skinnies and a feminine blouse or tank top.

Stylelist Shares The Most Comfortable Flats for Spring 2011

imageJust call it the Lanvin effect!

Flats were all over the Spring 2011 runways, noticeably so at the French house, where Alber Elbaz’s mantra started a revolution of comfortable shoes for spring. After models at his runway show couldn’t keep their balance in the towering heels provided, the designer had the girls switch to flats.

He said, ‘Damn it with image. You can be stubborn and go after an image, but I’m not an image-maker; I’m a dressmaker. If you don’t feel good in something, you don’t look good with it.’

Even Arianna Huffington put her foot down revealing to Elle ‘my aspiration is to end my life entirely in flats. I feel so much more comfortable if I can walk around without being in pain.’ (The Media guru even went on the record admitting that her biggest fashion regret was a pair of brown suede Manolo Blahnik boots)

Havaianas Soul Collection

The renowned Brazilian flip-flop maker steps into slip-ons and sneakers

havaianas-espadrilles.jpg

Before Havaianas was born, its parent company Alpargatas, founded in 1907, exclusively sold espadrilles. (Alpargatas actually means espadrilles in Spanish.) Going back to these roots, the Brazilian maker of the popular flip-flops will introduce espadrilles, ballet flats and sneakers next Monday.

While the soles use the Brazilian company’s same ultra-soft rubber (a top-secret formula) that make their sandals so comfy, different materials for the uppers extend the brand with some added function. The espadrilles and ballet flats (both $38) keep it simple with cotton that comes in a variety of different colors. For an eco-friendly option that’s still durable, the
Staple
-designed sneakers ($58-68) are made with Jute fiber that grows in the trenches of the Amazon River. (Havaianas still makes their shoes in Brazil.)

To give some context, cotton takes 10 years to decompose, polyester takes 100, while Jute only takes two years. Jute farming is also one of Brazil’s main economic activities so the purchase of the eco-styles supports their economy and the Brazilian environment.

Outlier Spring 2011

Keep dry while biking with two new editions from a favorite cycling fashion label

outjack1.jpg outjack2.jpg

Urban biking clothiers Outlier always seem to be upping their game with details that we had the chance to see first-hand when they stopped by last week to preview their new lineup for Spring 2011. This season sees a few classic styles revamped with technical refinements, as well as an instantly covetable jacket and shoes joining the collection.

The Pivotal Bomber Jacket, “a synthesis of everything Outlier,” combines a lightweight “4Season” wool with the brand’s signature pivot sleeve construction. Trimmed in superfine merino, the mid-weight outer is water-resistant, breathable, and has a handy angled arm pocket.

outjack3.jpg outjack4.jpg

Similarly a balance of technical details and style, their first foray into footwear is a minimalist waterproof sneaker in men’s and women’s sizes. The Outlier Feit Supermarines, handmade by Australian specialty shoemakers Feit, feature a double layer of French calf leather on the interior and exteriors comprised of Egyptian cotton made from only the longest fibers—hence their extreme water resistance.

A removable cork midsole helps absorb shock while riding, and a double layer of Vibram sheet rubber provides solid traction for when you hit pavement. Other bonuses include waxed cotton laces, a reflective patch on the back and a hidden pocket on the tongue (for tucking laces).

While all these cleverly-engineered details don’t come cheap, investing in the jacket ($290) and shoes ($260) will see you through many a ride.

Invisible Shoe by Andreia Chaves

Here’s some more information from Chaves:

Launch of first studio series by designer Andreia Chaves

The first commercial studio series by designer Andreia Chaves will be launched at this years’ Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (February 10-17). The series entitled ‘Invisible Shoe’ will be shown in New York in a exhibition organized by Mercedes-Benz in collaboration with designer Herve Leger and this will be followed in March 2011 by a launch in Asia in association with I.T Hong Kong as well as the opening of the new store I.T Beijing Market Comme Des Garcons.

Described as a study of optical effect applied to shoe design, the ‘Invisible Shoe’ series explores the concept of invisibility though the ‘chameleon effect’ while the shoe’s reflective finished surface creates an obscured optical effect with each step taken. This innovative design greatly exceeds the primary function of the shoe, where “protecting” the foot also means “deleting” or “immersing” it into the environment.

The series, which will be available in limited edition, in three different models, is handmade in Italy using a combination of leather making techniques together with advanced 3D printing technology. For the development and manufacture of the external structure, Chaves has collaborated with the renowned Dutch Company FOC (Freedom Of Creation).
