Sad for mosquitos, great for us!

Know why mosquitos like us humans so much?! It’s because we give off carbon dioxide – who knew? The Mostrap taps into their CO2 craving so they go after IT instead of YOU! A mixture of yeast and CO2 bring them in, and once inside they’re zapped by an electric grid. The trap’s elegant form bio-mimics the shape of mother nature’s predatory pitcher plant, making it a doubly effective and attractive killing machine! Do you think PETA will approve?!

Freshest Air At Home

Inspired by the movements of a fish’s gills, the Electrolux Breathing Wall literally breathes in fresh air and infuses a relaxing environment at home. The wall mounted ‘gills’ are integrated into the home-space, transforming the area to bliss. Apparently the wall changes shape according to the air cleaning process. The Breathing Wall can be customized to suit individual needs through six functions; weather, memory, reaction, breathing, mood, and general settings by using a smart device app.

Breathing Wall is a 2013 Electrolux Design Lab semi-finalist.

Time with a Twist of Orange, Please

Conceived for use by the blind but stylish enough to appeal to a broader market, the Nike Citrus watch’s spiral form stretches to fit any wrist size and hints to its zesty inspiration: an orange peel twist. Apple iPhone 6, Really!

The new Apple commercial has drawn a lot of flack for its insensitive portrayal of interaction between people and its products. For a twisted moment, the focus has shifted from the human experience to the gadget experience. The disconnect of emotions is creepy and alarming! Close on heels is the news that a new iPhone may be out in September, so till that time let’s absorb this new take on the Jesus-phone! Apple iPhone 6, Really!

Lasvit Designs Tour de France Trophies

Designer Peter Olaf with (from left) the 2012, 2013, and 2011 Tour de France trophies.

The 100th Tour de France wrapped up yesterday in a spectacular “jubilee” burst of yellow near the Champs-Élysées finish line, where Kenyan-born Briton Chris Froome added to what’s proving to be a banner summer for the United Kingdom (see also: Andy Murray at Wimbledon, the highly awaited Baby Prince). In addition to the yellow jersey, Froome was presented with a hand-cut crystal trophy from Czech-based Lasvit.

Since 2011, designer Peter Olaf has masterminded the series of hand-blown, hand-cut trophies, which are produced for the overall winner, best under-25 rider, best sprinter, and best climber. Each trophy, the product of hours of sizzling glassmaking toil, is over two feet tall and weighs almost eight pounds, according to Lasvit. Among the special touches for the 100th Tour is a layer of opal glass that was ground using wedge-shaped cutters, revealing the crystal underneath and producing a decorative design with a strict, geometric shape.

The Skinny on Furniture

Nir Meiri’s new Slim collection features furniture and light objects that follow the same skinny morphology. Users can admire the traditional construction through exposed joints and visible connections between the raw wood legs and tabletops. A perfect compliment to the minimal table structures, desktop lamps adapted specifically for the series give the illusion of continuation in the legs and expand upwards to illuminate the surface.
