The Iron Man of Firefighting

Imagine climbing upwards of a grueling 50 flights of stairs while wearing 30 pounds of gear. That’s the reality for many high-rise firefighters. A little help would be nice, right?! That’s where the AFA Powered Exoskeleton comes in. Strapped over the firefighter’s gear, the device provides supplemental muscle to aid performance in walking, running and carrying up to 200 lbs.. Enough to carry equipment or even injured victims in time-crucial emergency situations.

Ultimate Transparency

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Apple Keyboard, but I hate the fingerprint marks that my daily usage leaves on it. According to a research the amount of germs found on the keyboard is 60 times more than that on the toilet! To take care of these two issues we have here the UVLightBoard concept. The keyboard uses a transparency panel as the main structure.

The technology used is of microstructures on an optical light guide that gives it the perfect illumination for buttons. This means users can type comfortably in any condition. The UV light guided inside UVLightBoard will irradiate germs adhered to the panel and sterilize it by the FTIR phenomenon.

The UVLight Board is a 2014 iF Design Awards – Concept Design entry.

The Guide Brick

The Blind Guider is an innovative guide brick that for the sight impaired. It provides the street names and directions to blind via RFID embedded on the guide brick. The blind communicate with the guide brick through the sensors found on the bottom of the guide cane, which is transmitted to the earphone. How feasible is this design is yet to be determined, however as a concept it is a good idea.

Considerate Ceramics

The Ceramic Scoop Bowl isn’t just cool because of its Cvisual oddness… it’s also designed to accommodate individuals with muscular conditions and is an ideal eating aid for one-handed users. The vertical wall and sloping bottom helps users easily guide food onto their utensils while also allowing the plate to rest at the edge of the table helping to eliminate spillage. For added safety, the bowl also features a nitrile rubber base to prevent sliding and provide a stable eating platform.

Modular Traffic Lights

We have way too many hoardings and en route distractions while driving, and I complete get what these designers mean by ‘crowded traffic lights’. Any visible space that comes in the line-of-vision of the driver is populated with clutter; hence the CEF Traffic Lights looks at remedying it. Modular enough to fit in various functions like a camera, the lights simplify the current option.

CEF Traffic Lights is an iF Design Awards – Concept Design Entry for 2014.

Urban Nature Redefined
