Lil’bitty Light Sensor

Access to a good light meter can make or a break a photo, but the designs are often bulky, archaic in user-friendliness, and expensive. The Lumu light meter is reduced to the size of the round sensor, eliminating the need for a separate handheld device. Instead, it works with your smartphone using a dedicated app for taking luminance measurements with a spectral response sensor that works like the human eye. Why not, since you already have your phone with you?!

There is no darkness too dark and no light too bright which Lumu can’t measure!  It’s not just about getting your measurement right… Lumu’s app enables the light meter to use all the cool features smartphones already have. By saving it to a cloud you are able to track your progress. Save all the data about the moment you shoot, including: location, voice record, note, picture, photo parameters, and many more. The app is made to support your creative process, not to stand in your way.

Constantly Upgraded Smartphone

The tech industry is on an innovation overdrive, what’s fresh today gets obsolete within days. The loss belongs to the end consumer actually; we all felt the twinge when Apple introduced two new iPhones barely months apart. Its human nature to want the newer product, hence designer Francois Rybarczyk has a good solution for this: the XTRUD Concept Phone.

  • One part supports all the components, and features a very simple aluminum or plastic profile.
  • The architecture allows the users to easily replace the phone components, (for example changing the original camera module for the new Sony one), but it also allows the users to change and customize the design of their phone by buying new profile parts.

*Disclaimer “Sony” is just for representational purposes only and doesn’t reflect the company’s ideations.

What SaY?

The SaY mobile phone was designed quite a while back but somehow the design looks still fresh and in sync with today’s needs. Right from the colors to the angles, the use of a rubberized body in contrasted with a slightly angled glossy keypad that fits perfectly in the talking position; everything is relevant to date. The camera and a pair of stereo speakers are arranged in a graphical and eye-catching fashion. Strikingly modern, yet rustic!

The Phone, Simplified

Gotta love the simplicity of this minimal desktop phone by Younghwan Kim! Designed for the OCD professional with a perfectly organized desk, the phone at first appears to be a black, glossy block accent. Un-nest it from the base, however, and it will reveal a minimal interface with basic number keys and an simple LED screen. Its functionality is as minimal as the stark aesthetic, and that’s its charm!

The Less is More Phone

While the majority of modern smartphones focus on more, more, more to increase productivity, the CELs phone was developed from the belief that less distraction and “uni-tasking” rather than multitasking is the key to being productive. It focuses on just 4 basic functionalities: music, photography, fitness, and communication. What it lacks in apps (even internet!), it makes up for in a cool, quirky aesthetic and a straightforward, user-friendly interface!

Designed to be rotated at the middle, it has two sides, one with the Cell phone interface and other with the music player. By rotating the either side of the device the user can turn on the camera or the fitness device. While using any of the four (i.e. cell phone, music player, camera or the fitness device) the other functions of the device are put on standby mode. It encourages uni-tasking to build a more focus and productivity.

More On The Curves

Is there something more comforting about holding a phone in your hand that feels and looks curvy? Perhaps yes, and this is why phones like the VEGA, inspired by the design and innovation “brionvega”, demand so much attention. According to the designer, the display is curved for a better grip and use and the black and white OS is super cool. The color function is active only for the video – photo modes and the phone is crafted from polycarbonate.

A Silky Disposition

You have to hand it to Samsung and Apple’s forward thinking design team that made it acceptable for us to have phones that are a cross between a tablet and well … a phone! While the new forms give us a gawky looking device, The Bionic Silkworm Inspired Phone takes us back to the basic shape of an ergonomic handset. Designed to make both children and the elderly comfortable with its use, the LED display and infrared sensor technology make it as tech-savvy as it gets. So which will you prefer… a phablet or a phone?
