Halloween Costume Ideas For $20 Or Less!

imageSo unless you’ve been living under a rock, or have holed yourself up in a dark room, I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that it is pretty much Halloween. It’s this Saturday and maybe you’ve been thinking about finding something cool to go as or just finding any costume, really, so you can join in on the Halloween spirit and festivities. But what about that bank account? Halloween is still a great deal of fun for any age, but now that you understand the value of a dollar more than you did when you were five, you realize that blowing upwards of three figures for one night that you’ll remember through a haze is not that a great of an idea. Your rent is due soon, there’s that bill you really can’t put off anymore and the Holiday season is fast approaching as well. Have no fear (except for those ghosts and goblins that’ll be roaming around in a few days), because after doing extensive searching and bargaining hunting, I’ve found quite a few Halloween accessories that are easy on the pocketbook and, when added to clothing and accessories that you and your friends already have, make a great costume for cheap! Click on the slideshow to see some great Halloween costume ideas that’ll leave enough money in your wallet to buy your own Halloween treats!

Ha Ha Halloween: Outrageously Funny Halloween Costumes!

imageAlthough no one ever seems to tire of the sexy devils, bumble bees, and bunnies skimping around town on Halloween, the outfits that take the prize are the ones that make us laugh. The guys always get me to smile with their kissing booths and giant banana costumes, but a girl with the confidence to goof around with her look makes a memorable impression! A route certain to turn heads is the creative one, and while they all can’t be found in stores (like last year’s Sarah Palin and Joe The Plumber), if you can cue in to some of pop culture’s latest cover-story conundrums or recent icons (think, literally, Rachel Zoe), you’re a goofy god. Sure to flaunt your funny bone, however, is a classic like some num-nums or a young one, and a slew of other clever, time-appropriate ensembles! Yeah, the overused pirate or pixie gear this Halloween will look cute, but nothings cuter than the gall of a girl who can walk around town wrapped in a giant gorilla hand.! Click through this slideshow to see some of the funniest costumes to goof about in this year.

Ghoulish And Gorgeous Halloween Makeup To Complete Your Look!

imageIf you’re not exactly the most handy with an eyeliner brush, or even if you can’t tell the difference between an eyeliner brush or an eyeshadow applicator, you may normally skip past beauty aisles and counters out of fear of the unknown… or the likelihood that you’ll end up looking like something out of a horror movie if left to your own devices with a collection of shades. Luckily, Halloween is the one time of year where that look just might work in your favor! Costume makeup doesn’t discriminate between the cosmetics-challenged and the beauty adept; even if you’re not looking to go out as a drag queen, it can be fairly easy to complement your costume with the right Halloween-appropriate makeup. Dark nail polish is always an easy way to get festive, or take the opportunity to go full-out glam with gilded eye foil. Or if you’re really that helpless when it comes to self-beautifying, these wild ColorOn eyeshadow appliques practically do all the work for you! Take a look at the slideshow for some perfect beauty picks to either look frightening or fetching on your night out!

Sink Your Teeth Into These Seriously Scary Vampire Halloween Costumes!

imageWith the Twilight and True Blood sexy vampire phenomenon leading the way, these blood-sucking bad guys are back in full force. But even before the unruly hair and pale skin of Edward Cullen the soap opera story plot lives of those hot monsters from True Blood, vampires were still around and intriguing us regular mortals while scaring the living daylights out of us at the same time. It started with Dracula, and then there was Christopher Pike and Anne Rice who added sex appeal to their vampiric characters (who could forget Brad Pitt as a young, brunette bloodsucker?), and of course the ultra-buff Wesley Snipes in Blade. Now with Halloween fast approaching, there’s never been a better time to dress-up as these Halloween classics. Choose the usual vampire get-up with the swirling cape, fake blood and drawn-in widow’s peak, or put a modern day spin on it a la Twilight and don a cool leather jacket, lighten your skin tone by about 6 shades and pop in some fake fans. Bonus points for chiseled good looks and stubble. Check out the slideshow for what you’ll need to have an undead Halloween!

Hot In The Hive: Witches’ Kitchen Casserole Cauldron

imageDouble, double, toil and trouble! Concoct the perfect witches’ brew (or a totally harmless casserole that’s just frighteningly festive) this Halloween season with the Witches’ Kitchen Casserole Bowl from Unica. The black ceramic bowl can also be used as a regular serving bowl (snacks, candy, spooky side dishes — you name it!) and is part of a sustainable line of limited-edition goods produced from eco-friendly materials. Sure, it’s a little costly, but it’s not so garishly Halloween-ish that you’d be forced to hide it in the cupboard until next year. It’s universally sleek and stylish for kitchenware, but with the right seasonal decor and the perfect pointed hat, it’s potion-ready!

Price: $360
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add the Witches’ Kitchen Casserole Bowl to the Hive.

Show Your Sense Of Humor This Halloween Without Sacrificing Your Sexy Side!

imageSure, there’s no sexier quality than your stellar sense of humor, but some Halloween costumes that are meant to be hysterical are also seriously unattractive. We’ll try to ignore that time you went as “junk in the trunk” with a pillow shoved down the back of your pants… and let’s face it — the Mary Katherine Gallagher from “Superstar” ensemble definitely didn’t get you any dates. Luckily there are store-bought costumes available that will allow you to be the true renaissance woman that you are: funny, stylish, and sexy, and maybe not so crafty, but no one’s perfect. Pay homage to a comedic character like a feisty cop on Reno 911, or give fellow party-goers a dose of 80s nostalgia in a sexy Ghostbusters get-up! You may not end up looking quite as skimpy as everyone else in attendance, but hey — the goal is to show off your personality! Browse through the slideshow for a collection of ready-to-wear costumes that are both comedic and cute.

Hot In The Hive: Philosophy Candy Corn Shower Gel

imageI don’t know about you, but when I think of Halloween, the word that most prominently comes to mind is hardly a scary one — “candy.” Mini Skittles packets, fun-size Snickers, king-size candy bars from the nice old man down the street. Oh, and candy corn! Can’t forget the candy corn. However, now that we’re well past our trick-or-treating days (sort of), and we’re more or less haunted by the effects of all those extra calories, we body-conscious ladies have to find healthier ways of getting our Halloween sugar fix. Thanks to Philosophy and all their signature yummy-scented bath and beauty products, we can literally douse ourselves in Halloween-festive sweetness without so much as a cavity. The Candy Corn Shower Gel is actually a 3-in-1 high-foaming cleanser that can be used as shampoo, body wash, and even bubble bath. It smells so much like the real thing, your sweet tooth will either be totally satiated by the end of your shower, or seriously tempting you to raid your sister’s hard-earned trick-or-treating loot.

Price: $16

Halloween Costume Pieces And Accessories You Can Actually Wear Again!

imageIn your quest for the ultimate Halloween costume this year, you have a few options. For one, you can spend $60+ on a kitschy packaged costume that at least 10 other people will also be wearing… and chances are you’ll never touch it again. Secondly, you can go the clever route and piece together your own costume.. and after a dozen trips to a handful of stores and hundreds of dollars later, you’ll have the best Halloween ensemble ever… that you’ll probably never touch again. But the most appealing option? Door number 3: piece together your own super-cool costume from stylish pieces that you’ll actually wear way more than once! Even the most wearable trends are largely inspired by very costume-y themes: gladiator, biker, cowgirl, etc, so why not be resourceful and concoct up a costume while making a fashionable investment in the process? Channel a retro-chic flapper girl with a fringe miniskirt that can translate to a very modern night on the town, or don a sequin blazer for a cabaret/showgirl-type look that will be still be way “in” in the months to come. For more costume ideas featuring wardrobe pieces that will still be trendy even after the 31st, take a look at the slideshow!

Too Old For Trick-Or-Treating? Try These Tasty Halloween Treats!

imageBesides my own birthday, Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. Halloween is a holiday like something straight out of a Tim Burton/ Charles Dickens special: the costumes, the parties, the mystery, the lighthearted pranks that we all pulled on each other … and the best part of it is the sugary treats that make the tricks a little sweeter. Fun-sized classic candy bars are still great, but now that we’re a little older, the door-to-door inquiry for candies, while would probably be just as fun, is much less appropriate. Luckily for us, though, although being older means no more trick-or-treating, it does mean great parties, smaller costumes and Halloween treats much better than even full sized chocolate bars dropped into your pillow case. Check out the slide-show to see some frighteningly fabulous Halloween treats that’ll really amaze your guests!
