Called Stripes, the shades comprise a series of metal rings with gaps that allow two or more shades to overlap when hung in clusters.

A floor lamp with two interlocking shades is also available, and a series with interlocking flat panels that work in the same way, called Peignes.

Here’s some more information from Ligne Roset:

A very spare ceiling light with an asymmetric shade reminiscent of interwoven combs. This asymmetry, these shifts, are strong themes in the work of Philippe Nigro.

Laser-cut shades, transparent cable, brushed stainless steel base.

CH Edition: Jill Platner

Our limited-edition Jill Platner bracelet and video premiere event
platner-ched1.jpg

Crafting gorgeously organic shapes in her SoHo, NYC studio for nearly two decades, designer Jill Platner uses old-school artisan techniques to make modern jewelry that looks as good as it feels to wear it. The Massachusetts native moved to NYC to study at Parsons, where she took up metal-smithing and began realizing her true passion.

An avid surfer, Jill integrates her passion for the outdoors into her designs and all of her work is sturdy enough to withstand an active lifestyle. Unexpected materials like strong Tenara thread, both UV ray- and salt water-resistant, make her jewelry at once rugged and comfortable to wear.

We’re excited to include several pieces by the talented designer in our pop up shop, and having been a fan for over a decade, I’m psyched to have collaborated with Jill for our CH Editions collection. Re-envisioning her signature rawhide bracelet, we worked together to introduce a dove grey leather to her trademark sterling silver toggle clasp for 12 extended-length versions.

The limited-edition bracelets sell from our online shop for $205, but be sure to attend our dedicated event at the Cool Hunting for Gap pop up tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 December 2010, to catch the premiere of our behind-the-scenes video of Jill Platner and her studio.

Replica

Wrist watch-inspired jewelry from Swedish goldsmith Göran Kling
gorankling1.jpg

A mix of conceptual design and traditional craftsmanship, Swedish designer Göran Kling recently released his first commercial collection, Replica.

In an “homage to exclusive wrist watches, Swiss craft skills and cheap knock-offs,” Kling integrates the intricate detailing and fine metalwork of classic timepieces into effortlessly sophisticated bracelets.

The recent graduate of Konstfack College of Art and Design applies his studies to his background as a goldsmith for a collection that shows a strong appreciation for the sentimental value of jewelry and a talent for modern design.

Many of the pieces in the new collection play on the standard wristwatch build, with an artistic pendant replacing the clock. Some pieces clearly herald standard watches while others interpret the pattern more liberally, with multiple bands or textured metal pieces in place of the watch face.

You can get the easily wearable and innovative designs by contacting Göran directly, with prices typically set around €300 per piece.

Seletti Stack

stack-saletti1.jpg

An interlinking metal cabinet system designed by Alessandro Zambelli, Stack debuted as part of Seletti‘s “Augmented Reality” exhibit at Superstudio during the recent Milan Design Week.

The Stack system offers three sizes as a base, and eight smaller stackable pieces, each with a different function. Inspired by old warehouses and retro metallic containers, the modular structure combines lockers, office drawers, lab cabinets and industrial closets for a cohesive collection of storage solutions. An unusual palette of subtle colors plays an important role in recalling an iconic past and familiar memories, while various shapes and styles mesh for an endless series of personal and unique combinations.

Toroflux

Toroflux.jpg TorofluxDetail.jpg

Gallery and design store Moss recently reminded us of the exciting and beguiling art toy Toroflux. Created in 2000 by German brothers Jochen and Conrad Valett of Valett Design, the simple tools and construction for the kinetic sculpture consists of a large plastic ring with a slinky-like metal coil wrapped around it.

The result though is a surprising example of physics and artistic invention. When tipped, the metal coil whips around the plastic ring with increasing velocity until it resembles a bubble. The action video below reveals the real triumph of its design.

Made of plastic and stainless steel, the Toroflux sells from Moss for $145.
