Break The Cooking ICE

ICE is the mix of a lamp, mood lighting and recipe database that can assist in making your cooking and dining experience even more delightful. The theme for this year’s Electrolux Design Lab was to create appliances that enhance your cooking experience by livening your senses. The ICE adheres to this in many ways.

As the designer explains, “When placed above any cooking or dining area ICE can scan its surroundings and assist the user in creating the best meal to suit any occasion. ICE can scan ingredients you’ve already chosen to cook and give suggestions on meals that can be made from those ingredients. The user can also access a vast database of recipes and ICE will guide you every step of the way.”

ICE is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab Top Ten finalist entry.

Musical Dinner

Imagine a future where food is inspired by music. I am talking about the SmartPlate, a dish that understands food and transforms it into sound. As described by Julian, it completes the circle of senses by which we understand what we eat. The plate hookes up wirelessly to your mobile device, and then by measuring the different aspects of your ingredients, it identifies food. It then precisely attaches musical notes, harmonies and rhythm to each ingredient.

Essentially the user can listen, compose and interact with recipes of sound!

The Spummy Is Here

The Spummy is the future of flavor creation that uses nano-technology to create edible foam. There are endless possibilities to the flavors that can be spun into foam and the combinations can ignite any gourmet chef’s fantasy! Citrus Fresh Squeeze

You got to simply love the handy Citrus Spray designed by Alberto Arza and Joan Rojeski for Spanish houseware brand Lékué! It is so simple and a surefire way to get freshly squeezed lime juice (or any other citrus fruit) sprayed over your food! Can it get simpler than this – just stick in the spraying mechanism through the cut-off wedge and get spraying!

The biggest advantage is preventing the loss of vitamins and oxidation of the juice.

Chopping Slide

Love this unique and sleek chopping knife by Andreas Kalt! Reminds me of how Nigella goes on a chopping spree with her herbs. Because of its bulk size and sharp blades, the knife disassembles and can be safely stowed in a drawer. I bet your kitchen can do with this baby, and so can mine!

Very Smart Pan

The Heating Smart Pan addresses the need of a portable cooking appliance that can double up as the cooking utensil as well. There is a lot that we expect from our cooking aids these days; some folks like traditional methods and others prefer to explore high-tech appliances that give freedom of space and minimal worries about cleaning up. Heating Smart Pan is meant for the latter, for people who like to cook without using up too much space or fuss, the pan itself is a heating device and uses battery or electrical power to fire up. Neat!

Super Clean Food

Tabii is a food sterilizing and washing unit that gives storage life with a drying option. The focus of the project is to come up with solution to combat future water shortages and the ‘Turkish habit’ of food drying. Hence the unit works as a sterilizing, washing, drying, and dehydrating appliance.

How it Works:

Tabii washes the fruit and vegetables by the ionized water for total sterilization with minimum water usage. Ionized water kills more than 99.9% of harmful germs by oxygenated mixture of positively and negatively charged nano-bubles. The appliance makes it possible to choose consecutive processes like ‘wash and dry’ or ‘wash and dehydrate’. Drying and dehydration is achieved using ultrasound technology. Ultrasound dehydration permits the removal of moisture content from solids without producing a liquid phase change. Unlike the conventional dehydration methods based on hot-air drying, it cannot deteriorate the quality of the final product.

Power Wash

The DualWash reminds me of the Electrolux Design Lab concept Bifoliate Double Dishwasher. The idea is similar, to have a wall mounted dishwasher that doubles up as a storage cabinet. However the DualWash features some newer innovations. This two sided dishwasher uses carbon-dioxide cleaning rather than water-based cleaning.

How it Works:

When the washing cycle is started, Carbon-dioxide cycle is activated, and Supercritical Carbon-dioxide is pumped to the cleaning chamber. Supercritical Carbon-dioxide has a very low surface tension, meaning instead of beading up into a ball like water, it spreads out widely covering all surfaces. During the washing cycle, Carbon-dioxide flows around the machine and cleans it. For solid particles, Supercritical Carbon-dioxide is turned to gas phase and food particle filter holds contaminates. The filter can be removed and cleaned.

Professionally Spiced Sauce

Mix is a smart appliance that comes loaded with a whole lot of recipes. Essentially the database makes it smart enough to calculate just how much spice and seasoning will your sauce need. According to your recipe and portions, the device dispenses either a powder encased in a ball or a liquid sauce. Simply use the dispensed portion and cook with confidence, knowing that you are cooking a professional meal!
