Just some Furniture I like…

Rawdesign

Lately my husband and I are searching or should i say exploring … no budget at the moment 🙂 for some furnituter we would love to see in our new apartment in Singapore (please key arrive this week!) and the bookshelf Haarlem by RAW studios based in Pretoria South Africa is definetly added to our wish-list.

Scottrichandvictoria.com

And either one of these dining table chairs would fit really nicely with the Haarlem Bookshelf don't you think? Both are designed by  Scott, Rich & Victoria, an inter-disciplinary design partnership of New Zealanders Scott Fitzsimons and Richard Hartle, who began working together in London in late 2007.

Nadadorastudio

Cristina Alonso and Isaac Pineda are Nadadora. A Design Studio from Spain  and again I love the dinig-chair, which one the three in the images do you like best?

indie-Furniture by Nicola from Bern

Indiefurniture2

When I saw this DIY cabinet yesterday over at the 101-woonideenblog I was really excited…could this be something for our own home? We have been looking for a long time, but still haven't find one that we like and more important, can afford 🙂

Indiefurniture

The idea from designer Nicola Enrico Stäubli behind the Indie Furniture is to create a  storage solution consisting of universal furniture joints and customized wood panels. There is an easy configurator in the shop to help you calculate how much you would need and the costs of course.

Screens

The designer behind Indie-Furniture is Nicola from bern… perhaps you have seen other work from him before like the series… I also love his latest project called 'Screen'. Perhaps the idea is to use it as information screens for exhibitions, but I would not mind to have it here in my studio and use it as a room-divider and hang all my inspiration scraps on it. More about Nicola the designer right here and here you can buy the materials for the Indie-Furniture cabinet.

I have found a new love for my bed… and I hope mu husband likes it too 🙂

New bed covers and it was at this blog that I learnt about the incredible new collection by Scholten en Baijings for Danish label HAY.

I'm not sure yet where to buy it, their is an online shop from HAY but shipping isn't worldwide, so if anyone knows where to buy it please let me know. I think I will ask Holly from Huset if she is going to add it to her shop

The new collection of home textiles consists of bed linens, tea towels and two series of carpets and they were presented at this year’s Maison & Object for the first time.

Wow can we just agree that the styling of the images and how this whole presentation has come together is just superb! It doesn't feel like products are being pushed onto you, it just gives a great sense of how the actual products could live in your home … love love love the Colors!!

BonBons from Ana Kras

Anakras

I have fallen in love with Ana Kras this morning… via the blogs from Jurianne and zeza flor, I arrived at this Serbian design talent Ana Kras…why haven’t we seen her work before? Perhaps this is going to be Ana’s breakthrough year…some of her amazing lamps have been shown at the Salone Del Mobili in Milan… above is an image form her BonBon Lamp series;  colorful strings knitted manually over steel wire shapes and below is an image of the Noodle,  one of the side-tables family inspired by plastic baskets for garbage.

Anakras_nudle

Ana Kras was born in Belgrade, Serbia. She currently works on different personal and commissioned projects, don’t hesitate to get in touch she says on her website 🙂 so I will and ask her where I can order one of the BonBons. ps. don’t forget to have a look at the KSilofon clothing rack too!

Lucy visited the Salone del Mobile in Milan for us…

Designfiles_milan

Dear Lucy from the Design Files went to the Salone del Mobile in Milan last month and when I heard about it I was jealous of course 🙂 but also very curious, why she went, what she liked best and what it was like to go as a professional design blogger to one of the biggest furniture design events of the year….she was so kind enough to answer all my questions and share with us some of her own images

Why going to the Fair?

I have always wanted to attend the fair… especially after last year when my friend, Australia stylist Megan Morton attended the fair and sweetly wrote a little Milan round-up for my blog! After seeing all her incredible photos I knew I had to visit myself!   This year I was lucky enough to finally make it there…

Did you go alone or with some other design lovers?

I went alone, but I did know quite a few other Australian designers, design-lovers, media etc who were also going… so I was never really alone!  Even though nearly 300,000 people attend the fair, I managed to accidentally bump into pretty much every Australian I know!   I think we must be magnetic 🙂

Designfiles_8

What were your first impressions?

First impressions – um, it was HUGE!  The main fair, in the Milan fairgrounds at Rho was SO so huge and overwhelming, I got a bit flustered until I accepted the fact that I would never see everything, and just prioritised specific favourite designers and certain areas.

I was also just amazed at how much effort and expense everyone goes to with their stands and installations… I cannot even imagine how much money is spent on installations by people like the Campana Brothers, Tokujin Yoshioka etc…. it is mind boggling.

Trends, trends …. what are the trends?

Oh that is hard…!  I am not convinced about the idea of ‘trends’ – I feel that a well-designed piece of furniture should be timeless and beautiful forever!  Having said that, I did notice a few common themes… there was lots of coloured / tinted glass used for lighting, tableware and furniture.  I especially loved the Swedish designer Daniel Rybakken‘s stunning wall-leaning Colour light, and Out of Stock’s Hues table. Super beautiful.

Designfiles_11

I also noticed the use of Carrara marble by many designers for smaller accessories, lighting, and an incredible marble sculpted coffee table by London-based Ifeanyi Oganwu of Expand Design

Designfiles_12

There was also lots of work inspired by nature / plant life – lots and
lots of tables, shelving and garden furniture designed to accommodate
plants, and many installations which made use of vertical gardens and
lush leafy foliage.

Designfiles_7

Which designer or designs are your favorites?

Emerging Swedish designer Daniel Rybakken‘s stunning wall-leaning Colour light was my favourite single piece(see image on top).  I also really loved Grace Winteringham‘s Phase Bureau.  Diesel’s ‘Successful Living‘ range had a brilliantly designed stand inspired by a ‘Moon Landing’ – though not many new designs on show.

In which way was this Fair useful for you as a professional design blogger?

Oh well I guess the main thing was feeling part of the action – in Australia I often feel very far away from the big design happenings in the world – it was amazing to be part of the first-hand experience, rather than just reading about it all online!  As for being useful to me as a ‘professional blogger’…oh Irene you are too kind!  I think  perhaps the trip was more useful to me as a stylist than as a blogger… although it did afford me the opportunity to change my masthead temporarily which was quite exciting! (Thanks to Kat Macleod!).

Designfiles_5

Funniest moment during your trip?

Oh there were many ‘lost in translation’ moments… I speak no Italian at all, so there was much hysterical pointing, miming etc.  I had great great fun with my Italian housemate Paola – she was the BEST host and took me out riding through Milan’s busy streets on her shiny little vespa – that was incredible!   We snuck into a big Audi party in the Tortona area one night, which was very much ‘invite only’ – we pretended to be official photographers using my camera, and I ended up with hundreds of pics of people I don’t even know!

The Volcano in Iceland also made for some nervous laughter (or hysteria!) towards the end of the trip!

Designfiles_1

Which other Fair is on your list to visit?

I would love to attend Maison et Objet in Paris one day!

Any tips for first time Fair-visitors?

Attend the main far at Rho first – it is the least exciting, good to get it out the way early! Also, do not even CONSIDER seeing everything.  It is impossible.  Relax and take in what you can… it is too easy to be overwhelmed by all that is going on during the fair!

OH and if you have a blog – write some posts in advance! It is way hard to blog everyday whilst you are away! 🙂 THANKS SO MUCH IRENE! Lucy xxx

The Invasion

Deinvadsie

I was on the lookout for the opening of this new online shop, De Invasie…where a group of talented creators and designers from Belgium and The Netherlands have been united in one platform, a great initiative by graphic designer Yves Drieghe and Bert Pieters….

Deinvasie

In the images:: Appelkleed by Fermetti, pillows by Sharon Slingeneyer, ceramics by Lenneke Wispelwey and more ceramics by Fou de Feushop till you drop…have fun!

Studio Gorm

StudioGorm_peg

Peg, a flexible furniture system made up of simple components and it’s soooo beautiful! Made by Studio Gorm…two former students of the design academy Eindhoven, John Arndt and Wonhee Jeong, have now set up their studio in Rotterdam…StudioGorm

…and I really love the #3 Chair too, so elegant, soft and clean looking. I think we will see a lot more of Studio Gorm in the near future.
