Monday’s quick start: Utopia & Utility

Just when I was about to say… STOP THE TRIANGLES!!! … Swedish design store Asplund brings their new collection rugs and I LOVE them. Of course it does help when styling and photography is so nicely doen 🙂
Talking about photography … in a couple of hourse I will be sharing a new designer visit with you and I guarantee you you will be very happy when seeing the new dose of inspiration from the Netherlands… so stay tuned and come back!
Hosun Ching is all about practical living while designing his graduation project from the Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands and achieved it with the 'Walk-in Closet'. With great responses during Dutch Design Week, I can definitely see why. I already like the simple wooden finish and teal trimming (I wonder if I can get one in a yellow or navy blue). I love what you get inside even more :). Perfect practical living with a full length mirror, compartment for shoes, and a display case for jewelry. Do you need more? I don't think so. ~Sufiya

It is about time I am doing this post … why, you perhaps think … well since I came back from NY this lady is on my mind .. I love her designs enormously and she is such a sweet person. 'Who' is she? Well her name is Jean Lee and she half of the Ladies & Gentleman design studio based in San Francisco.
WHile walking at the NYIGF my eyes suddenly caught these beautiful round copper lights hanging in a small corner. Like a magnet I was drawn to them … only after a while of observing them I noticed the lady standing next to them and when she introduced herself I was like … oh wow, how wonderful to meet you and 'yes' of course this must be a new design from Ladies&Gentleman!
And soon after I discovered the new 'perimeter trays', which I am hoping to find underneath the Christmas tree this year 🙂 …
{The image above and below were taken by Kelly Ishikawa for Anthology magazine issue no. 8 …great article, perhaps you can still get a copy somewhere.}
a bit about Ladies & Gentleman:
'Driven by a love for all things simple, clever, and/or designed, Ladies & Gentlemen was founded by Jean Lee (the Lady) & Dylan Davis(the Gentlemen) in 2010. With a mix of resourcefulness and nostalgia, the studio builds objects considering yesterday's values reinterpreted for current times.'
I'm loving all their designs, but my favs are the aura lights, the perimeter trays and the vintage spoons … and one more .. Homestead … enjoy shopping!
Let me start this morning with the Loft Evo chair by Zbigniew Strzebonski.
And yes this is a chair that would fit in my interior … not sure what I like best about it the color or the geometric shape or the way it has been photographed …
{ Book: Belgian designers and their interiors by Diane Hendrikx and Muriel Verbist}
When Hadewijch Ceulemans from Luster Publisher emailed me with a question whether I was interested learning more about thsi book I responded imedeatly.. yes of course the cover already is so inviting … I am honest with you I haven't seen the actual book myself yet but from the images and pdf I can only say that this must be a must-have for every interior design lover. ……MORE
"The book comprises fifteen interior reports that were compiled in the designers’ own homes. The photographs show the houses and apartments as they really are, honestly and without any styling, ranging from a Brussels loft to a converted farmhouse in the countryside. Some of the designers maintain a strict separation between work and private life, and see their home as a quiet place where they can retreat with their family. Others live and work in the same place; in that case, the photographs include the designer’s studio and illustrate how they use their work space."
The book is available right here.

And speaking of copper … how about a whole bike made of copper! While Lisette was in Milan visiting the Milan furniture fair 2012 she spotted Dutch designer Bart van Heesch at Studio zeta. He was one of fifty recent Design Academy Eindhoven graduates chosen to exhibit in Milan. And although he was there showcasing his luxaflex made from circles of brass (see the images below in this post) . I also love to show this incredible bike and the cool accessories from him.
Another graduate who made it to THE '50' in Milan is Eva Smeltkop with her Refrigerator 02. A small, transparent storage appliance, in which sweets and snacks not only keep well, but also look good. Thank you Lisette for the images!
More info about Studio Zeta and The 50 design graduates is right here.
Let's do one more quick start today to start this week… these beautiful hopper boxes inspired by the traditional Japanese Wappa bowls by design duo Florian Kallus and Sebastian Schneider aka kasch kasch from Köln in Germany… who wouldn't want to have storage containers like these… I know I would!

… the amazing outdoor collection by Paola Lenti blew Lisette away! And it confirms one more time how important colors are. The ton-sur-ton styling works just perfect and I wish I could have walked around in this garden myself.
If you could choose which gaden set would you get, the fuchsia, the blue or the ocre? I am in love with the pink wall.
I will leave you just with these images today … enough inpsiration I believe
