Daily Obsesh – Block Lamp from Design House Stockholm

imageWhat a great feeling to re-decorate you home, as things can get slightly stale year after year. Wouldn’t it be nice to walk in the door one evening after work, and be pleasantly surprised at the freshly painted walls, new cozy sofa and gorgeous curtains?

If an all out overhaul isn’t in the budget, we suggest just a few new pieces of decor to give the room a whole new feel.

One of our top picks is the Block Lamp from Design House Stockholm. A true design classic since it’s launch in 1996, the block lamp is inspired by industrial glass bricks. The bulb is encased in two heavy glass blocks and can then be set on the floor or a tabletop. The lamp is offered with a red, black or white wire and gives off the perfect ambient glow. It’s also sure to spark up plenty of conversation!

Daily Obsesh – Meio Cheio Sugar Bowl

imageThis Meio Cheio Sugar Bowl is absolutely adorable … and versatile! We’re loving the kaleidoscope-patterned glass, the Chinoiserie-inspired shape, and the subtle yet beautiful design.

Use this mini bowl as a candy bowl (IKEA candies in pastel colors would look beautiful), a ring holder, or even just a decorative piece to put on display! Put it on your nightstand as a pretty center piece that also holds small jewelry! A beautiful accessory to any home, the Meio Cheio Sugar Bowl also makes a wonderful gift!

Daily Obsesh – Porcelain Milk Jug

imageWhat do you want with a porcelain milk jug, you ask? Well, because to start – it’s fancy. And for any coffee or tea drinker, it’s a great way to hold your milk or creamer. Or if you’re an avid cereal connoisseur (hey, we’re not judging – Frosted Mini-Wheats rule our world), then it’s a nice accessory to go along with your cereal bowl and morning appetite. Or … okay, are we stretching? Eh. Use it to hold milk, water, flowers … it doesn’t really matter. It’s just a cool design for your home or office and we like it. ‘Nuff said.

Sweet Treats For Your Sweetie

imageTwo different bakeries are providing delectable Valentine treats this year exclusively through William-Sonoma!

The first comes from a bakery in Maine that uses fresh, local ingredients. They are offering Sweetie Pies, a dozen heart shaped moist red velvet cakes reminiscent of whoopie pies. The pies are filled with buttercream in chocolate, raspberry and vanilla. Each one is individually wrapped then packaged together in a ribbon-tied box.

The second offering comes from Two Hearts Bakery in San Francisco. They’ve hand created s’more ‘hugs’ and ‘kisses’. X and O shaped Graham crackers baked with a touch of wildflower honey and Saigon cinnamon are dipped in Guittard milk or dark couverture chocolate. A hand-cut marshmallow made with Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon vanilla is sandwiched in between. These decadent concoctions come 8 to a package (4 X’s and 4 O’s) in a gift box tied with a red ribbon.

Treat your sweetie to one of these sweet treats this Valentine’s Day!

Street Style – Raid Your Closet!

imageTrends come and go, certain cuts and silhouettes fade in and out of style and fashion is constantly changing and being recycled. So while going on a shopping spree for new pieces at the neighborhood Bloomingdale’s is always a fun pastime, one place to check out to help revive your wardrobe is your very own closet!

Our closets seem to accumulate clothes throughout the years and many of the classic basics are still wearable without looking dated. The trick is to amp up has-been items with modern accessories and trends! Here’s some of our fave basics and tips on new ways to wear them!

The Loose White Tee – While this classic will always look good with a simple pair of jeans, make it modern by pairing it with sleek leggings. Add more edge with details like lace or chunky layered accessories. A pair of killer stilettos add sex appeal.

Classic Trench Coat – Always in style, make this piece more youthful by pairing it with a skirt, dress or shorts that have a shorter hem. Balance it out with some of-the-moment knee highs! Or opt for a form-fitting black ensemble with rocker detailing (think studs and leather) and throw the trench over for a sophisticated touch!

Basic Button Down – A roomy button down is great for work when tucked into a pencil skirt, but wear it on the weekend too! Leave it untucked, or halfway tucked, into trendy denim or a pair of leather(ette)shorts! Industrial-inspired jewelry or other funky accessories, like a headscarf or suspenders, lend even more unique style.

Oversized Cardigan – We all have many of these in our closets, in our drawers or in a pile on the floor. These cozy go-to pieces make great layering pieces for any cool weather look, but make it the center piece by pairing it with simple skinny leg pants or leggings and belting over the cardigan to create a waist and sleeker silhouette. Long chain pendants and chunky rings make great accessory options.

Denim Cut-Off Shorts – Every generation has some variation of the jean cut-off. These days, a shorter style is in. To make it seem less scruffy and casual, try it with opaque tights or knee highs and a pair of chunky heels. A looser fit button down or blouse makes it dreamy and romantic. Or don a fitted cami or v-neck tee and throw on a blazer for more structure and coverage!

Daily Obsesh – Unzipped Glass Zipper Bag

imageThere’s only one way to calm a sweet tooth – it’s called candy. Lots and lots of candy. Yum! But you can’t have your sweets laying out all over the place. They need a home too.

And the one we love the best here at Stylehive is this – a glass bag that pays homage to the handy little Ziploc, except this isn’t one that you toss when you’re done with it. Instead, you just fill it up with more of your favorite treats and simply reach one hand into the always ‘unzipped’ opening when you get a craving.

It doesn’t get better than that … or at least, it doesn’t get any sweeter.
