Check out this new commuter bike line from Specialized. More close up photos here.

Some amazing attention to detail in all of the very classic models. The Roll fixed gear model with its recessed grips, one piece handlebar/stem, and head tube badge that you can hold anything the size of a business card is awesome. Great use of Chewbacca in the close up link too.

The Bain Project

This is one of many photos taken at the historic North Carolina water treatment plant last month. Artists were invited to come in and photograph the place, accompanied by art shows and musical performances. Lots of great pictures, check out the project’s site here.

That Menacing Stare

It’s a bit hard to write even a sentence about a duo that is so enigmatic and cryptic. It feels anything I say may take away from the amazing body of work they’ve created. With that said, the work reminds me a bit of Matthew Barney’s work from his Cremaster Cycle. It might have something to do with that menacing stare.

Check out Lucy and Bart’s site here, it’s worth it just to make their faces morph back and forth. Trust me.

Maurice Scheltens

He’s a Dutch photographer with a brilliant and minimalist approach to composition. Using very regular objects, and very carfully controlled shooting conditions, he creates some intensely sharp and hyper realistic still-life photos. The shots are so shape and colour focused that they feel graphic or artificial in a lot of cases. Definitely cruise around his site, lots to see. I’m a huge fan of simplistic stuff that works, plenty of examples of this in Scheltens’ work.

Analog Project

These are light stencil photographs, raw shots (no photoshop). Not entirely sure how they do it, but interesting all the same. This could have a lot of applications, keep an eye out for more from their site.

witty, absurd, and completely gratuitous; this flickr photoset walks a fine line between art while at the same time mocking it.

BMW Z4 Paintbrush

An Expression of Joy… a fun little art project (like a canvas the size of 2 football fields 160 liters of paint & 45 cameras) from artist Robin Rhode and filmmaker Jake Scott for the new 2010 BMW Z4 Roadster.

Check out the teaser here.

_bydiddo

Great work from this new Amsterdam studio, set up by Diddo Velema.

He’s worked as a designer and art director for 12 years, often combining skills from a number of different disciplines (art, design, architecture, fashion, photography, and product design). His most recent stuff, done under the ‘_bydiddo’ name, include these soon-to-be-released wetsuits. I’m surprised a company like Volcom hasn’t done something like this anatomical one yet. Check the studio website here, and some of his other art direction here.
