Jenna Postma

Jennap

Jenna Postma is a wonderful young designer that creates from the
heart. Working with different materials, Jenna produces simple everyday items
with a little bit of her own story.

Do you recognize these? These ceramic necklaces are of the
everyday view of Dutch architecture. What is your building of choice? A
farmhouse? A church? I would go for the mill!

The jewelry box is the other piece I would like to mention
because I was excited it’s a standing jewelry box. Being a girl herself Jenna
thought that it would be useful if you could hang your necklaces in the box.
Yes that’s perfect! If you don’t want the high legs, there are smaller ones for
tables and walls. ~Sufiya

Colorful living with Hellen van Berkel

Hellenvanberkel_diningtable

Come and see this beautiful home .. again 🙂 … here on Bloesem. Hellen van Berkel who lives here already shared her amazing place with us a couple of years ago, but this time my friend Marjon Hoogervorst made the pictures, not only of her home but also of her new collection gorgeous silk scarves … I really like what Marjon did to the images scarves … letting them flow and bringing them to live …                       [READ and SEE MORE after the break]

Hellen van Berkel is a textile designer living in the Netherlands. The images you see here are part of a whole series featured in the October issue of Dutch magazine VTWonen. Her place is amazing and I totally understand why VTWonen liked to feature her.

What I really like in Hellen her home are the colors. She has a talent for combining different colors, perfect tones. When I see the floor in the kitchen below I would never have thought about choosing these tcolored tiles, but the look superb! Making this kitchen special and I believe easy to maintain.

Perhaps best to send VTWonen an email if you would like to see the issue.

Dutch Design Year in Eindhoven

Dutchdesignyear_new

Dutch Design Year is a store started by a designer herself
Marleen Kurvers (see her gorgeous tube frame light below) . Located in Eindhoven, where talented Ducth Designers come
together to showcase their products. Marleen mixes the old and the new, where you
can also find a collection of vintage products. Great idea Marleen.

Irene and I share the love for wooden products, so I can see
why she picked these pictures. I can easily see these wooden pieces in our
office. I also think that, that the geometric flower vase would be a very unique
addition for a centerpiece don’t you think? ~Sufiya

Marleenkurvers

I love this idea of adding the glass tube frames to the colored cords, Marleen Kurvers is the designer. A light that is reduced to its very essence: one tube of glass, one wire and one contact pin. Depending on the model, the light can be used in different ways by twisting or turning the frame. The tube framed light defines simplicity in production and functionality. Available in different colors.

Lab 71 by frieda mellema =  concept  .  design  . styling  . photography of…

Yes, Frieda Mellema former half of Friedamaria has gone solo with wonderful
inspirational products and images. What I  love about the first look of her
website is the experimental feel of making new things… we already loved her style very much and Lab 71 is only bringing us better and more thought-through items.

In the diary section you can find pictures of the work
in progress of Frieda's gorgeous handmade creations and great inspirational ideas of
how you would style them. My favorite is her butterfly brooch collection. Very uniquely
made and I would wear it with a chain as a necklace as well.

Do people still carry around handkerchiefs? Well they should. These simple plain handkerchiefs stood out to me because of the pictures printed on them.

You can still find Frieda Mellema collaborating Margo Weyer as Friedamaria.

Monday’s quick start: Baby Barrel Lamp

Barrellamp

A bit ashamed to say but New Duivendrecht a Dutch design label was totally unknown to me until last August when I visited the NY international Gift Fair. You remember I told you I came to the fair together with Jurianne, who was part of Tuttobene and Tuttobene was founded by Victor Le Noble who also is one of the designers behind New Duivendrecht.

Victor send me an email last weekend telling me about their latest product called the Baby Barrel Lamp designed by Nieuwe Heren… an I really like it!

The design of the first Barrel lamp was inspired by the aesthetics of WWI searchlights. Now more friendly but still a strong and sturdy shape that provides a steady source of light in any type of space. It is crafted out of wood, steel and concrete…. the combination of wood and concrete makes it very attractive for me and I  would probably place the Baby Barrel  lamp on a floor in a corner of my home. Design expo about The Eating Person

Save-food-from-supermarket

Marjon and Sandra visited the DesignHuis in Eindhoven a little while ago where the exhibition 'De Etende Mens' or 'The eating Person' is currently showing. The exhibition is curated by well-known food designer Marije Vogelzang and organised by Premsala.

The Eating Person is about exploring the link between people, design, food and the origins of what we eat – with topics ranging from global farming systems to the potential of laboratory-grown meat. You will find the work from international designers, photojournalists and artists including Marti GuixePeter Menzel, and Koen van Mechelen

If you are in the Netherlands this exhibition is definitely worth going to and you still have some time … open until 13 January 2013.

Twilight, shade, dawn … new collection by Tas-ka

Taska-2

Absolutely worth waiting for … the new collection by Dutch design studio Tas-ka.

Twilight, shade, dawn! … are the six new prints screenprinted on high-quality cotton, all fabricated in The Netherlands.

The ladies from tas-ka are bgining the sensation of 'Schemer, lommer, dageraad' (dutch for Twilight, shade, dawn!) which is the elusiveness of what happens in the early morning and evening, with the clear colours of the rising- and setting sun and the darkness of the night.

And the new collection is now available in their webshop.

Many more images below.

Jointed Jewels byAmt

Jointed jewels amalia

One of the nice things about my visit to the NYIGF was meeting dutch designer Alissia Melka-Teichroew in real for the first time … she and I have been emailing very often during the last couple of years, but meeting her in person adds so much to my love for all her designs.

At the gift fair Alissia showed her latest jewelry collection: Jointed Jewel 'Amalia' Collection

When I saw Alissia wearing one of her very new necklaces I almost ripped it of her shirt :)) .. I think she got the message and was super kind to give it to me as a present at the end of the show … and I must say whenever I am wearing it I am getting so many compliments … it is pretty big and so a real eye-catcher you can say and so completely different from all other jewelry! I believe the particular necklace I have is not available for sale yet … it is the Quilt Maple Pendant and will soon be available through her website. But at Jointed Jewels you can buy any of her other amazing jewelry pieces.

Image above are from the Jointed Jewels 2009 … it represents a union of new and old, organic and industrial, functional and decorative. At the heart of the collection was  the intention to transform complex and separate elements into a new kind of whole. It started as an exploration of ball joints, commonly found in cars and hip replacements. Alissia had the idea of creating a ball joint -normally assembled with sepa- rate parts- as one single piece. Through the use of selective laser sintering (SLA) she was able to literally make a ball inside a ball.

… yes you read it correct the jewels are 3d printed and you can buy them online here

Byamt_1

And yes these images are from products Alissia has designed too … you see how diverse and talented she is! I love the Strap Collection and the Peasant Collection very much. Although the bench is not in production yet, the smaller milk stools are manufactured and distributed by Y'A Pas Le Feu Au Lac from France.

Alissia is founder and creative director of byAMT Inc, which she in her own words says is a New World-Old World mash-up. The daughter of a French mother and American father, she was born and raised in The Netherlands and for the past 10 years living in NY.

ps. If you are interested in producing any of the product please contact ALissia info@byamt.com

World Skin Colors by Reineke Otten

Reineke-otten

Today I start with Reineke Otten and her amazing World Skin Colors carves. The silk scarves are printed digatilly with not just a nice looking patteren. Reineke has studied and interperated data for the last couple of years and litterly spend 4 months working with excel sheets resulting in these patterns.

For a designer working in the field of visual sociology Reineke's goal is to to reveal society’s patterns and orders — and occasionally, to generate beauty by recording and assembling images and information. Each scarve shows a graphic for a particular country … 200 in total.

"imagine people as color pixels. Flying over the world, you would look down and see . . . what? Our planet is an unstable composition of complexions: through migration, intermarriage, cosmetics, war, trains, planes, and automobiles, the ‘view from above’ of the earth’s skin tones is in a continuous state of evolution."

One day this beautiful looking one-of-a-kind lady came to Reineke to the tuttobene booths at NYIGF and expressed her awe and love for Reinke's scarves … you can probably imagine who much fun we all had and of course were intrigued by this colorful person.

Turn demographic data into a visual language and then into fashion… World Skin Colors
