Umbrella That Stands

Search Umbrella on Yanko Design and you will see many concepts that try to make it blend into the background, when on the go. Flexibler is one of the most refined solutions that I have come across. The umbrella handle bends and can be used in different positions, it retains its original form when needed.

Flexibler’s handle is made from flexible metal on the inside and skid-proof rubber outside.

Flexibler is a 2013 Red Dot Award: Design Concept winner.

Charger On The Seat

Car chargers are so yesterday! How about a charger (USB Slot) integrated into your seatbelt? The idea is restricted to public transportation like busses, but I see so much value in the idea. Intuitively, most of us hang on to our phones and devices. At the most stuff it in our pockets or keep it on our laps. OMG, this is such a brilliant idea, please make it!

BMW R90R – A Classic Revived

I have often felt that most of the present day motorcycles are over designed. The designers’ attempts at aggressive form language usually results in the rides ending up with a liberal dose of visual clutter and makes me crave to see the honest and clean design style of café racers back on the road. And exactly for this reason, transportation designer Kévin Biolluz’s reinterpretation of the iconic cafe racer BMW R90S on its 40th birthday is interesting. One of the fastest production bikes in 1973, the Daytona Orange Beemer was a classic design and a pioneer in several fronts including the first to feature front fairings as standard.

The redesign attempts to fuse the classic with the futuristic. The stance, the low slung handle, the seating, all implies a cafe racer, yet it is seamlessly integrated into the sharp body lines of the aggressively futuristic design language.

The clean looking engine block is an evolution of the current BMW boxer. The monoshock rear suspension is done using Gimbal’s head which makes use of a shear spring. A triple clamp helps to keep the front as aggressive, simple and thin as possible.

Designer: Kévin Biolluz

Future Control

Discovering tangible patterns and predicting future outcomes based on it has always enticed the collective imagination of humanity. From mapping of celestial movements to the weatherman’s forecast, this fascination for predicting the future has helped civilizations to make sense of the macro system that they are part of. The ‘Predictables’ project aims to bring this forecasting to a personal level.

It largely consists of two parts. The first part constitutes an app that scours for the digital data an individual and his social circle produces. This app then connects the dots to make sensible patterns and intelligently proposes future outcomes. The second part consists of systems that interfaces with the individual. The interaction with the individual is made possible using intuitive interfaces projected on a variety of surfaces using a smart watch or a desktop pico projector.

The complex analysis algorithm promises to bring prediction into a wide variety of areas in personal life including career, love and friendships. I would willingly part with my entire savings for it if I could get accurate predictions about my Gf’s mood swings. :)

Articulate Beats

I completely connect with the Le Pen concept, where the designer has tried to marry a pen with a music player. I still recollect those glory days when I used to solve math equations to the beats of U2 and Police. Somehow music helped me zone in and focus on those numbers. I’m sure many of you like to work with something strumming in the background, Le Pen takes an innovative approach towards that.

Watch Me, Please!

It’s the current norm to have smart watches hook up with smartphones via Bluetooth, however they are limited by their display size. The Watch-Me has extended display up to 20mm x 140mm and with gyroscope sensor installation. The accompanying video explains how this concept works and I am sold on it. Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these babies and try them on….have a look….

Classic Radio

There seems to be an upswing towards everything old, retro and classic and this Classic Radio fits that bill. It hosts the design cues of the old including the mechanical sensibilities and operations. It’s the prefect marriage of digital with analog, what do you think?

Linear Or Long, Just The Way I Like It

The EON 2 is a concept kitchen whose main highlight is the rotating bar. By moving this bar from linear to L-type, you get a chance to play around with the space, looks and orientation of the room. The minimalist design is supported with the use of high quality materials and fittings.

Essentially the rotating bar allows greater mobility of the kitchen and more space when the kitchen is not used. The kitchen fronts are made of painted MDF and worktop is a made of LG Hi-Mac acrylic composite material.
