London Design Guide
2010 Edition
Edited by Max Fraser
Publication Date: 24 September 2009
Price: £10 Paperback

London Design Guide is a new annual publication dedicated to the vibrant and multi-faceted designscape of London.

London’s design scene is widely considered one of the most energetic, diverse, and innovative creative communities in the world. The city is vast and it can be a daunting task discovering its design offerings. London Design Guide has done the hard work by selecting and reviewing the leading design shops, galleries, and institutions and celebrating the rich mix of design choices in the cosmopolitan capital today.

dznldndesignguidecomp3

Organized by key areas, the guide reviews the design retailers of contemporary and 20th Century furniture and products; the design galleries dedicated to collectible design; the museum institutions that educate on design history; as well as the bookshops that comprehensively cover the subject of design. Each area is accompanied by a clear map and a personal tour through the area, written by an informed local. This is supported by restaurant, bar, cafe, and hotel recommendations.

dznldndesignguidecomp8

Due to its annual nature, London Design Guide includes several topical editorial features – many written by external experts. A key feature is design tribes, which identifies groupings of designers working with similar philosophies. Each ‘tribe’ is given a name including The New-Modernists, Escapists, Reactivists, Digitalists and Revivalists. These tribes are featured in a series of exhibitions across London during London Design Festival in September 2009.

Here’s some more information from Triflow:

TRIFLOW FUTURE TALENTS

Triflow Concepts Ltd runs design competition in association with 100% Design.

Triflow Concepts, one of Britain’s largest independent brassware manufacturers, has announced a design competition to culminate at this year’s 100% Design exhibition at Earls Court, London, from 24th -27th September.

Triflow has been receiving submissions of designs for a pioneering new kitchen or bathroom tap or accessory. The entries will be shortlisted by a prestigious judging panel to include renowned British architect Zaha Hadid, celebrated interior designer and architect David Collins, Editor-in-Chief of Wallpaper* magazine Tony Chambers, Editor-in-Chief of Dezeen.com Marcus Fairs and design writer and consultant Caroline Roux.

The final shortlisted designs will be exhibited at the Triflow Concepts stand (J20) at 100% Design and the winner will be voted for by the public. The winning design will be announced on the final day of 100% Design and will be taken into production. Also at 100% Design, Triflow will present Zaha Hadid’s stunning Zaha Collection on custom-made ergonomic Zaha Hadid plinths, and the brand new Contemporary Triflow range will be unveiled. More information to follow.

Triflow Future Talents is an opportunity for Triflow to support emerging British design, in acknowledgement of the company’s roots in British brassware manufacturing. Triflow Concepts, formerly known as Avilion, is a true UK manufacturing success story. The company was established in 1978 as a brassware manufacturer, excelling in producing high quality engineering solutions. Whilst over the past decade many brands have chosen to close their UK factories, transferring their manufacturing processes to the Far East and other low cost areas, Triflow
Concepts took the decision to strengthen its position in the UK.

The company continues to expand today. 2009’s collaboration with Zaha Hadid has been an important part of Triflow’s return to the innovative roots from which it grew. Triflow’s three-way water technology – which allows filtered water to be dispensed through a separate internal channel alongside the standard hot and cold waterway – is a world first and, now patented, is yet to be challenged. This technology offers a hassle-free, eco-friendly alternative to bottled water and continues to distinguish Triflow from its competitors.

Triflow is delighted to be working with 100% Design London – the UK’s leading architecture and design event showcasing everything for the modern building and interior. 100% Design London features world-class interiors show 100% Design, innovative and sustainable architectural products event 100% Detail, cutting-edge materials exhibition 100% Materials and emerging talent showcase 100% Futures.

As part of an ever-growing global brand (100% Design Shanghai and 100% Design Tokyo) 100% Design London this year is pleased to announce that JAM will take over as the show’s creative director, following in the footsteps of Ben Kelly, Tim Pyne, and more recently Tom Dixon.
