Citroen on Time

Following the trend of automotive-inspired timepieces, the DS watch takes from the modern design language of Citroen’s huge, luxurious hatchback concept, the DS N9. With remarkable attention to detail, the watch features a similar dramatic silhouette with the same elegant, forward-pointing double chevron that’s continuously been a mark of the French brand. It’s just subtle enough that even non-Citroen drivers will appreciate it.

Googly Eyed Watch

Silly really is the best way to describe this adorable timepiece by designer Mathilde Ampe! The clever SoH (Second of Happiness) watch has two separate axis for hours and minutes that resemble a couple of googly eyes. The face was designed to be easily interchangeable, allowing users to personalize the look of their watch. As time ticks by, the expression changes from cross-eyed, to bored, to mischievous. Wear it long enough and you’ll soon associate the time of day with the looks your watch is giving you!

Lunar Timekeeper

Inspired by the heavenly body nearest us, the Time & Space watch is a reminder that our very concept of time and space have long been defined by the moon. Real photographs of a full moon taken in Western France were used for the dial plate which is accented by traditionally shaped floating hands that appear as shadows against the surface. It’s a beautiful, modern reinterpretation of the watch that gives a nod to the very reason we even have them!

The Clock Clock White

Humans Since 1982 a imaginé cette excellente horloge appelée « The Clock Clock White ». En effet, les designers ont imaginé en coopération avec l’ingénieur David Cox que les aiguilles de chacune des 24 petites permettent d’obtenir une visualisation de l’heure sous sa forme digitale.

Orbital Timepiece

Moon Crater draws inspiration from its namesake with elevated gold numerals 3, 7, and 11 sitting atop raised platforms within a recessed case. The minute and hour hands move across the dial, perfectly encircling the raised numerals as they orbit the center. In black leather and steel, it’s a unique design that either sex will appreciate.

Believe It or Not, It’s a Watch

Named and shaped after the constellation Cassiopeia, this artistic watch design uses a series of zig-zagged multicolored LEDs for a surprising yet intuitive way of displaying time. To tell the time, simply count up the lights for each digit. Purple light designates double digit hours, blue designates single digit hours, and pink/red represent minutes in single and double digits respectively. Better work on your math skills if you want to sport this one!

Four Dimensions of Time

The latest in a trend of automotive-inspired timepieces, the Quad concept takes from the design language of the detailed headlamps found in the new Porsche Panamera. Time telling is divided into 4 orbs that each display an isolated subset of time in days, hours, minutes and seconds. With an aesthetic that aims for the sporty side of the luxury-watch market, the Quad hits the mark.

Redline

The trend of automotive-inspired watches has existed for a while, but the Redline concept by Kornwit D is one of my all-time favorites. It’s immediately obvious that the face and bezel are directly inspired by the car tachometer, but the blue, yellow and red color scheme do more than remind us of revving engines. Its aesthetic has a sort of Mondrian neoplastic feel that cleverly draws awareness to each passing hour with intensifying color.

Time To Wake Up!

The adorable Sub Morning is quite a quirky way to wake up in the morning! The dang thing actually requires you to submerge it in water in order to shut it off. The crisp display and added advantage of being a submarine, makes it more of a bath-time toy than an alarm. Oh well, ducky will have to go if you want to play submarines in your bathtub!

Sub Morning is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.
