The Most Style Savvy Stars Of 2010! (And No, It’s Not Ke$ha!)

imageThere were quite a few fashion disasters in 2010 and with majority of the votes, Ke$ha is the winner of being the most disastrous fashion victim (and rightfully so!). And while we usually show you how to get the winners style for yourself, who wants to be mistaken for a Ke$ha understudy??

Instead, here are two of our favorite fashionable celebs that were celebrated for their style savvy in 2010. Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo were both known for their expert eye in making unique and wearable ensembles and we love their looks! Alexa’s edgy, street savvy downtown vibe and Olivia’s classically modern uptown style are both to be envied!

Couture In The City Loves Full Skirts for Fall!

imageFull skirts that reach below the knee have been seen on runways and stars everywhere this winter! We’ve seen the look on Anne Hathaway, Camilla Belle, and Keira Knightley. It’s a look that works with a variety of figure types, emphasizing hourglass shapes and adding curves to boyish figures.

First popularized by the ladies of the 1950s, the cinch-waist full skirt has had many incarnations over the decade, from bias-cut flannel in the 70s to today’s more girly styles.

The best way to wear these skirts is with heels and simple tops. If you add too much volume on top, it€™s easy to throw the proportions off.

2011 Peoples’s Choice Awards – The Best And Worst Dressed!

imageIt was a chilly night at the 2011 People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles as stars shivered in strapless and low-cut gowns on the “blue carpet.” Fans of every stripe flocked to the Nokia Center to catch some of their favorite celebs, but did they deliver in the style department?

So far, Kim Kardashian has us wondering whether the Wilma Flintstone look is back (last having been in vogue during the Stone Age) with that hair and necklace. But! Taylor Swift and Mila Kunis looked just right in short ethereal cocktail dresses by J.Mendel.

Couture In The City Asks – Black Lace. Love or Hate?

imageBlack lace is one of those fashion trends that’s a bit tricky look to pull off because you risk looking like a Twilight fangirl, even if you’re all grown up. Jessica Biel, with her black lace dress from Oscar de la Renta, gives us some clues on how to wear black lace successfully.

First, normal hair and make-up are a must. Her hair is dark, but it isn’t shoe-polish black, and it’s done in a nice, loose style with curled ends. Her makeup is fairly neutral: no black lipstick (or blood red). And her fashion accessories really help her keep this look romantic rather than goth. The sparkly bracelet, ring, and clutch really make the look special-occasion-worthy, and her heels are simply dressy, not ‘statement’ shoes.

Katy Perry – Pretty in Pink

A slightly smoky eye brings Perry’s pink lip from good girl to party girl, and is a fun alternative to your typical holiday red lip. Pink also brings light to the face, and is a universally flattering shade.

‘You’ll want a soft smoky color like Laura Mercier’s Sateen Eye Shadow in Sable on lids first. Then smolder your eye by using a kohl pencil, and blend with a smudge brush upwards,’ instructs L.A. celebrity makeup artist Marina Gravani.

Celeb Poll – 2010 Fashion Disasters

image2010 is coming to a close and while there is much to celebrate, there is also much to say good riddance to! This includes a few fashion disasters from our favorite, and usually stylishly on point, celebrities (except for Ke$ha who always looks like a train wreck).

Between Rihanna’s cap of shockingly red hair, Lady Gaga’s meat dress and Ke$ha just being Ke$ha, how do we decide who made the biggest fashion faux pas of 2010? We’re asking you to weigh in on who you think had the worst style for 2010! Take the poll below!

A Fancy Handmade Lee Alexander McQueen Couture Visionaire 58 Spirit

imageInspired by one of McQueen’s final designs, this special ‘Couture’ edition of Visionaire 58 features an ivory-toned Italian leather case with gold-foil custom detailing and hand-embroidered metalized brocade covering the entire top and spine.

Reminscent of a small old-school religious altar, it’s simultaneously fabulous and – stratospherically-priced at $1750 – ridiculous … which of course means we’re massively coveting one. Oh, you too? Better act fast as they’re only on sale through December 31 at VisionaireWorld.com and very few remain.

Celebrity Look for Less – Rihanna’s Military Jacket

imageSinging sensation Rihanna is always great for style inspiration, and the outfit she was recently photographed in at the airport along with a long fishbone braid and a nifty choker necklace was no exception. Everyone€™s is particularly interested in the military / safari jacket she was wearing by Rag & Bone.

While I couldn€™t begin to tell you how to do the fishbone braid, if you want the look of the jacket for less than the $500 the original will set you back, have a look at the Tinley Road Pointe military style jacket from The Gap. This belted safari-esque jacket features button closure, and front pockets, and comes to just below the hips.
