The Virtual Reality Phone is Here

The award winning LG Touch mobile phone concept combines state-of-the-art touch technology with a minimalist aesthetic that challenges the limitations of existing mobile phones. The primary feature is a high-tech polymer membrane touch surface that constantly changes to give the user tactile feedback to what’s displayed on the screen. It allows those with sight impairments to read Braille, or users who are shopping online to literally feel the texture of the material they are looking at. It’s virtual reality put to real world use.

LG Touch is the Grand Prize Winner of the 2012 LG Mobile Design Competition.

Experience Color Through Touch

As you can imagine, the concept of understanding color can be incredibly challenging for visually impaired individuals. The Reveal project aims to bring a tactile system of simple shapes that can be easily learned by anyone for application in everyday life. Using tactile flashcards and posters as well as an audio-app for smartphones, colors are associated with touch and relayed to the user. Tactile tags on clothing and other objects then provide color information simply be feeling.

Braille Burgers

Some great Design Thinking here from Rhea Jeong

‘Hello Haptic’ is a flash card kit for blind children to learn various haptical experiences about nature.
Visually impaired children are able to self-educate themselves about different parts of nature with this learning aid. They will be properly stimulated about diverse characters of nature as well as fulfilling their curiosity through their first-hand tactile knowledge.
