Summer Scents You Can Spritz On The Go!

imageSummer can be the busiest time of year for many of us. Three months of vacation, travel, weekend excursions, surprise visits and spontaneous road trips! All those days at the beach, evening concerts and other balmy night activities sure are fun, but keep us busy and running all around! What is the best way to stay looking and smelling so fresh and so clean (clean) if there’s no time to stop by the house in between things? There’s travel size cosmetics, blotting papers, compact mirrors, mini hair brushes and even dry shampoo! But what about perfume? The last thing you want to do is stuff your already bulging tote with the Nordstrom’s fragrance department! Some mini perfume solids and oils have become my favorites, but at times, I just want to smell like my favorite perfume… the one that only comes in a spray-on version. The latest trend in perfumes and scents is the travel size tube! These are glass vials that hold about 0.3 oz of your favorite scent, so you can grab a familiar favorite and slip it easily into a purse or pocket and smell like your freshest you anytime and anywhere. More and more stores are providing this simple and sweet solution in scents so check out your favorite beauty store! Still not sure if you’ll be able to find your specific favorite? Check out the slideshow for some classic favorites.

That’s why we’re trying to keep up with all your questions so we can get you answers straight from Hadley herself. The latest? How to score perfect curls. Here’s what Miss H had to say: “I get my hair done at a local place called Joseph’s Salon. They are wonderful! One of the hair dressers showed me how to curl it two different ways. One way is long, soft curls. To do this you simply use a one inch curling iron and start at the root of the hair, and twist the curling iron until the entire piece of hair is curled around the iron. Hot In The Hive: Oribe 24K Gold Hair Pomade

imageWhen it comes to done-up beauty and hair, it’s all about looking expensive, whether or not it actually cost you an arm and a leg to look that way. Even in a tight economy like this one, we can’t help but splurge on a salon haircut and blow-dry, perfectly manicured nails and toes, and whichever new beauty gadget comes out to help replicate that professionally-done look at home. And now famed hairstylist Oribe has come up with the ultimate way to look like a million bucks — literally? The 24K Gold Pomade is actually made from crushed gold (in fact, it looks like golden goo-glitter) and serves almost as “makeup” for your hair, giving you shimmering gold highlights (which the creator admits will gild your clothing if you’re not careful) while helping you style and providing moisture and UV protection to your luminescent locks. While this product is certainly healthier for your hair, it definitely doesn’t seem like it’s for the demure. Make sure you’re prepared to stand out in a seriously shimmery way before you start going Midas all over your mane.

Price: $49
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add Oribe Gold Pomade to the Hive.

imageSummer’s here (as of yesterday, officially!) and no matter how makeup-savvy we are, the warm weather always seems to put a damper on whatever we put on our face. When it’s hot and sweaty outside, it’s not only harder to muster up the energy to go all-out with our application, but the makeup we do pile on always seems to end up elsewhere after a productive hour or two. Minx Nails, You Saw Them Here First!

imageEveryone has been talking about Minx Nails lately. The nail art was featured in a recent issue of Vogue and on “Today” this morning, but I have to say these “news” outlets are a little behind. The Frisky gave you the dish on Minx back in October, and even interviewed manicurist, Lisa Logan, who was responsible for Beyonce and Solange€™s Obama nails that were popular during the presidential campaign. Last week, I had the pleasure of getting my nails dipped in gold. OK, not really, but I got close. I had Minx Nails applied in gold on eight fingers and gold cheetah on two fingers. It was kind of weird to have a “dry manicure.” I had trouble remembering that my nails weren’t wet, even though I just had them done. I kept the Minx Nails on for a few days and found myself admiring them quite often. However, I don’t think they’ll replace my normal manicure– they’re more for special occasions. The pedicures, however, I could get behind. A Minx pedicure supposedly lasts three times as long as the manicure.

The Best At Home Beauty Treatments

imageSeriously, sometimes there’s nothing better than skipping out on a weekend night and enjoying some beauty treatments. Seriously, think of it as a health expense and do it (okay, have a glass of wine, too)! If you want to buff and exfoliate away some dry skin, my favorite is Bliss Fat Girl Scrub from Sephora. It gets rid of any dead skin cells and leaves your skin soft and smooth. The Shisheido Benefiance Pure Retinol Instant Treatment Eye Mask uses vitamin C to get rid of dark circles, leaving you looking refreshed after a weekend, instead of over-partied. Go Rock ‘N Roll Glamorous With Heavy Metal Eyes

imageThe spring runway shows left me thoroughly confused with all the different makeup trends. From bright colors to harsh 80’s eyes, natural looks to metallic, Spring ’09 brought us a lot of variety and lots of options. But by far the easiest and most flattering look was the metallic eye. Perfect for day or night, it can subtly sparkly and natural or sexy and smoky. One of my favorites was the wide-eyed look at Donna Karan. A beige to natural palette in gold and silver on eyelids paired with mile-long lashes gave the models an upscale yet natural look. Adding a warm coppery gold in the creases and a dusting of lighter shadow in the inside corners makes the eyes appear larger and more awake. When your eyes are sparkly like a disco ball, be sure to keep the rest of the face neutral. A touch of foundation and a terracotta blush is just enough to make skin look flawless and perfect. Finish it all off with a swipe of nude lipstick or gloss. The look will pair perfectly with all the beige and metallic clothes that dominated the runways. Take a look at the slideshow for some products that can help you perfect the look yourself!
