Summer Scents You Can Spritz On The Go!

imageSummer can be the busiest time of year for many of us. Three months of vacation, travel, weekend excursions, surprise visits and spontaneous road trips! All those days at the beach, evening concerts and other balmy night activities sure are fun, but keep us busy and running all around! What is the best way to stay looking and smelling so fresh and so clean (clean) if there’s no time to stop by the house in between things? There’s travel size cosmetics, blotting papers, compact mirrors, mini hair brushes and even dry shampoo! But what about perfume? The last thing you want to do is stuff your already bulging tote with the Nordstrom’s fragrance department! Some mini perfume solids and oils have become my favorites, but at times, I just want to smell like my favorite perfume… the one that only comes in a spray-on version. The latest trend in perfumes and scents is the travel size tube! These are glass vials that hold about 0.3 oz of your favorite scent, so you can grab a familiar favorite and slip it easily into a purse or pocket and smell like your freshest you anytime and anywhere. Minx Nails, You Saw Them Here First!

imageEveryone has been talking about Minx Nails lately. The nail art was featured in a recent issue of Vogue and on “Today” this morning, but I have to say these “news” outlets are a little behind. The Frisky gave you the dish on Minx back in October, and even interviewed manicurist, Lisa Logan, who was responsible for Beyonce and Solange€™s Obama nails that were popular during the presidential campaign. Last week, I had the pleasure of getting my nails dipped in gold. OK, not really, but I got close. I had Minx Nails applied in gold on eight fingers and gold cheetah on two fingers. It was kind of weird to have a “dry manicure.” I had trouble remembering that my nails weren’t wet, even though I just had them done. I kept the Minx Nails on for a few days and found myself admiring them quite often. However, I don’t think they’ll replace my normal manicure– they’re more for special occasions. The pedicures, however, I could get behind. A Minx pedicure supposedly lasts three times as long as the manicure.

Go Rock ‘N Roll Glamorous With Heavy Metal Eyes

imageThe spring runway shows left me thoroughly confused with all the different makeup trends. From bright colors to harsh 80’s eyes, natural looks to metallic, Spring ’09 brought us a lot of variety and lots of options. But by far the easiest and most flattering look was the metallic eye. Perfect for day or night, it can subtly sparkly and natural or sexy and smoky. One of my favorites was the wide-eyed look at Donna Karan. A beige to natural palette in gold and silver on eyelids paired with mile-long lashes gave the models an upscale yet natural look. Adding a warm coppery gold in the creases and a dusting of lighter shadow in the inside corners makes the eyes appear larger and more awake. When your eyes are sparkly like a disco ball, be sure to keep the rest of the face neutral. A touch of foundation and a terracotta blush is just enough to make skin look flawless and perfect. Finish it all off with a swipe of nude lipstick or gloss. The look will pair perfectly with all the beige and metallic clothes that dominated the runways.
