Ghoulish And Gorgeous Halloween Makeup To Complete Your Look!

imageIf you’re not exactly the most handy with an eyeliner brush, or even if you can’t tell the difference between an eyeliner brush or an eyeshadow applicator, you may normally skip past beauty aisles and counters out of fear of the unknown… or the likelihood that you’ll end up looking like something out of a horror movie if left to your own devices with a collection of shades. Luckily, Halloween is the one time of year where that look just might work in your favor! Costume makeup doesn’t discriminate between the cosmetics-challenged and the beauty adept; even if you’re not looking to go out as a drag queen, it can be fairly easy to complement your costume with the right Halloween-appropriate makeup. Dark nail polish is always an easy way to get festive, or take the opportunity to go full-out glam with gilded eye foil. Or if you’re really that helpless when it comes to self-beautifying, these wild ColorOn eyeshadow appliques practically do all the work for you! Take a look at the slideshow for some perfect beauty picks to either look frightening or fetching on your night out!

Hot In The Hive: Philosophy Candy Corn Shower Gel

imageI don’t know about you, but when I think of Halloween, the word that most prominently comes to mind is hardly a scary one — “candy.” Mini Skittles packets, fun-size Snickers, king-size candy bars from the nice old man down the street. Oh, and candy corn! Can’t forget the candy corn. However, now that we’re well past our trick-or-treating days (sort of), and we’re more or less haunted by the effects of all those extra calories, we body-conscious ladies have to find healthier ways of getting our Halloween sugar fix. Thanks to Philosophy and all their signature yummy-scented bath and beauty products, we can literally douse ourselves in Halloween-festive sweetness without so much as a cavity. The Candy Corn Shower Gel is actually a 3-in-1 high-foaming cleanser that can be used as shampoo, body wash, and even bubble bath. It smells so much like the real thing, your sweet tooth will either be totally satiated by the end of your shower, or seriously tempting you to raid your sister’s hard-earned trick-or-treating loot.

Hot In The Hive: MAC Style Black Glimmerglass

imageGet ready, makeup mavens — black lipstick is back with a vengeance, and not just because Halloween is around the corner. But forget the waxy opaque gothic-girl look of the ’80s. This time, thanks to MAC’s new Style Black collection, black lips are creamy and glossy and even multi-faceted with gold and pink shimmer. Reminiscent of a glittery oil-slick, MAC Glimmerglass is definitely daring, but undoubtedly wearable for those intrigued by the resurgence of the blacked-out pucker trend. Opt for Blackware, the shiny all-black shade if you’re down to go all out, or try its more sheer pearly counterparts, Bling Black and Blackfire, if you’re looking for a slightly more subtle stepping stone to the dark side!

Price: $18

Hot In The Hive: Aqua Eyes Collector Set

imageAs I’ve mentioned before, I love me some eyeliner. Black, preferably, but I’ve been known to dabble in other colors of the rainbow for a little unexpected “pop,” especially when a little color-coordinating glitter is in order. Sure, it’s not often that I break out the lime green or bright orange kohl pencils, but as a compulsive cosmetics collector, I at least like to have ’em on hand (after all, Halloween is approaching). It’s probably that exact behavior towards makeup — compulsion — that makes me swoon at the idea of Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes Collector Set, a 25th anniversary collection of 25 creamy eyeliner pencils in practically every shade imaginable. It’s gorgeous, like a brand new box of never-been-used Crayola crayons that appeals to both my inner first grader and my outer makeup junkie… but for $249? Sure, it’s kind of a deal, coming out to $10 a pencil… but $10 each on a good dozen colors I’ll only use on a handful of occasions goes a long way when it comes to denting my checking account. I guess it’s just another lust-worthy item to add to the “look, but don’t touch” category.

Pump Up Your Beauty Regime With Plum Makeup Shades

imagePlum, aubergine, eggplant… what is it about the dusky purple shade that conjures up thoughts of fall? Well, whatever the reason, it’s time to embrace it — beauty trends for the upcoming autumn months are all about going plummy with your eyes, lips, and cheeks for a sultry yet sophisticated seasonal look. But before you raise an eyebrow at the thought of your grandmother’s purple eyeshadow, you should know that these products are anything but retro-tacky! Update a smoky eye with a color-coordinated Stila eyeshadow quad in Montemarte, finished off with Urban Decay’s Ink For Eyes in Empire. The contrasting color works wonders in bringing out the gold flecks in your eyes. And if you’re all about the flushed cheeks, take your rosy glow up a notch on the color spectrum with Clinique blush in Plum Gorgeous. Scroll through the slideshow for my favorite plum products!

Who Had The Best ‘Do At The “Good Hair” Premiere?

imageFor a celebrity, it’s always vital to look your best wherever paparazzi might be present (like, uh, everywhere?)… so naturally a Los Angeles film premiere is no occasion to slack off, no matter how casual the affair. But when the film is Chris Rock’s docu-comedy “Good Hair,” the pressure is on to be more than just impeccably clothed. Last week’s Westwood debut brought forth a throng of fashionable ladies to the red carpet, including Gabrielle Union and Nia Long who both showed off bouncy curly coifs that hardly seemed as high-maintenance as the film subjects’ stressed-out tresses. And Eve and Raven-Symone were looking perfectly polished from their feet to their follicles with their shiny straightened locks that at least looked fuss-free and effortless (and that’s all that matters, right?). Vote below and tell us who you think had the best hair at the “Good Hair” premiere! Photo Credit: PR Photos
