Make Over Your Beauty Routine With These Must-Have Tools!

However, what if I told you that there were simple, easy-to-use tools that could cut your grooming time in half, make the makeup you already have look twice as good, or at least make application a whole lot easier? Even subtle changes, like trading your drugstore tweezers for a better pair that will put your old pair to shame or investing in a train case to keep all your beauty loot neatly organized, can make a big difference in the efficiency of your beauty regime and motivate you to clear out all your prehistoric makeup tools and swap ’em for a compact set of modern must-haves. You might be able to live just fine without the latest beauty technology, but you don’t know what you’re missing until you test it out! Lemondrop’s Latest Beauty Obsession: Bangs!

imageA few weeks ago, two Lemondrop staffers, Bonnie Biess and Julieanne Smolinski, got bangs. It isn’t important who got them first, only that they set in motion an office bang wave in which the fringe-y hair style spread like a viral wedding dance video. I was next to succumb, followed by Urlesque editor Kelly Reeves. And these are just your classic straight-across-the-forehead-style bangs — other Lemondrop eds sport side-swept and other long bang varieties. (In the spirit of full disclosure, I should tell you that we’re also all brunettes.) But the popularity of the look doesn’t surprise me in the slightest, considering how obsessed I’ve become since breaking into the world of bangs. I’ve always liked them — after all, what’s good enough for Bettie Page is good enough for me. But it wasn’t until I got them myself that I realized how bangs really kick your whole look into high-gear. They’re basically their own accessory, adding quirk and edge to even basic looks. Click over to our friends at Lemondrop to read more about their new hair styles.

Tone Down The Shimmer This Season With Matte Grey Makeup Shades

imageSay so long to pearlescent gunmetal and chromed-out silvers — matte grey is the hot beauty shade for the chilly season ahead! Matte nails have already taken the beauty world by storm, but now other makeup products are following in hot pursuit! From soft stone gray to rich chalky charcoal, there’s something about matte grey that gives the face an unexpected warmer look than the more common frosty silver shades. While I’ve noticed that grey shadow seems to bring the best out of green peepers, it’s hard to find someone who can’t pull off a dark slate eyeliner in place of your basic black. Plus, mattifying your lids leaves room for shimmer elsewhere (ie: cheeks or lips) and helps ensure a balance so that your face doesn’t end up looking like a shiny disco ball! Watch the slideshow for a series of grey shades to consider adding to your cosmetics collection!

WhatsWear Trend Alert: Simple Makeup

imageToday, it is all about going au natural. Gone are the days of heavily done eyes and foundation. Makeup is no longer meant to cover skin, but complement it. Less is more and subtle is the way to go for spring/summer 2010. Instead of dramatic eyes, opt for just mascara and a highlighter in the corners of your eyes for a light and refreshed look. Swap out your foundation for a light bronzer. Heavy makeup will never stand up to the heat. A notable example of trend could be seen on the Miu Miu runway at Paris Fashion week. Models were done up in natural makeup, leaving little to the imagination. They even skipped the bronzer!

Brighten Up Your Fall Beauty Routine With Yellow Eyeshadow

imageBright primary colors and neon shades are perfect for waking up a winter wardrobe, and this trend is making its way into the beauty department as well. Pastel yellow is too weak to stand up to the bold clothing shapes that we’re seeing right now– these yellows are anything but mellow; they’re bright, bright, bright. And while they may seem hard to wear, in actuality yellows and golds accent blue and green eyes and bring out the gold flecks in brown eyes. Sweep some over the entire lid for a look that’s shiny and bright. Or, take a cue from the Marc Jacobs runways and pair with some smoky black liner for a high contrast look. You can even sweep it on the brow bone and out to the temple. Check out the slideshow for some products to get the look.

Hot In The Hive: Michael Kors Very Hollywood Solid Perfume Cocktail Ring

imageOk, I can’t be the only person who’s ecstatic about the return of Michael Kors as a judge on Project Runway, right? I didn’t know I could miss his clever and biting quips (“slutty slutty slutty” and “insane crotch” come to mind) more than Heidi Klum misses being pregnant. Michael Kors has the American sportswear market cornered with his sophisticated yet effortlessly styled clothing. So I wasn’t surprised when browsing through Sephora that he’s lent his name to various fragrances too. Of course, Michael understands the value of having something with multiple functions. His Very Hollywood Solid Perfume Cocktail Ring definitely fits the bill because it may look like a showstopping cocktail ring, but if you slide the gem over, it’s also a solid perfume. The Very Hollywood perfume has notes of sparkling mandarin, gardenia, and vetiver for a fresh yet distinctive scent. Go ahead, dab some on at your pulse points and get ready to steal the show!
