Give Your Style A Sustainable Makeover And Resolve To Be Green In 2010!

imageOkay, so in the past you may have opted to take your car to the corner Starbucks instead of trekking the required block on-foot. You may have thrown a water bottle or two in the trash when there wasn’t a conveniently-placed recycle bin right next to it. You may have even sprayed a few dozen extra spritzes of aerosol hairspray when that stubborn cowlick just wouldn’t stay put this past New Year’s Eve. But it’s still only the start of the New Year, and it’s not too late to set a plan to revamp the way you treat Mother Earth! The truth is, being eco-conscious is a lot easier and more chic than its stereotype may lead you to presume. For example, you don’t need to turn to natural hippie waves and completely give up your blown-out hair — just replace your normal energy-eating dryer for an Eco-Air conserving one. And the next time you’re in need of a hot pair of jeans, look for a pair made from organic cotton — they’ll look just as great, but have your conscience feeling way better! Check the slideshow to see how you can style yourself sustainable in the year ahead!

Get A Fresh-Faced Start To The Year And Banish Those Bad Beauty Habits!

imageIt’s always fun to get dolled up and put on your sexiest dress, spikiest heels and perfectly painted face for a fun night out with friends and many of us have been doing plenty of that with the recent holiday season just ending. But after a night of dancing, drinking and running all around town with your besties, we too often get home and fall directly into bed, forgoing the much needed shower, or at least washing-of-the-face. With all the products and tools that help enhance a woman’s natural beauty – hair styling pomades and sprays, hot curlers or heated ceramic straighteners, line-erasing concealers and powders, cream shadows and glowing blushes – we sometimes forget that they also clog pores or dry out hair if we don’t cleanse and hydrate! So while turning in for the night without a cleansing ritual is a Beauty 101 no-no, it happens to the best of us, but don’t let it become a habit. Scared that it might already happen a little more than it should? No worries! Check out the slideshow for beauty products that will protect your skin and leave you refreshed and ready to take on the year!

Beauty Bargain: Stila’s Shadow-Liner Duo Pencil Goes Drugstore-Friendly!

imageI’ve tested (and collected) enough makeup to know that not all beauty brands are created equal. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still compulsively hit up the Walgreens cosmetics aisle to scope out the latest bargain beauty loot! I mean, considering how much money I spend on makeup in the grand scheme of things, drugstore products are practically free (a terribly dangerous outlook, I know). Next up on my list of things I’m dying to test out is CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlasts ($7.99 at Ulta), a double-ended pencil with shadow on one end and liner on the other. It looks remarkably similar to Stila’s Convertible Eye Color pencil, which I’ve always wanted to try but I could never bring myself to shell out $22 for a eye pencil, even if it is 2 in 1. While they both come in a wide variety of coordinating color duos, the Stila version may provide a little more accuracy given that the pencil is thinner. But hey — the key ingredient to a smoky eye is just a dash of messiness after all, so I’m still leaning towards CoverGirl for a fraction of the cost! I think I can hold my hand steady enough to achieve the look for less just fine!

Which 2010 Beauty Trend Are You Most Likely To Try?

image2010 has finally arrived, and unlike our childhood predictions of what the future might be like, we do not commute via hovercraft, and clothing has not been replaced with chrome body suits (with the exception of Lady Gaga’s). We are, however, witnessing the emergence of beauty trends for the year ahead, and while they are certainly innovative, they’re not quite as spaceship-chic as our young imaginations might have planned . Robots haven’t completely replaced people yet, but high-tech beauty gadgets like Lancome’s vibrating foundation are bound to revamp the way we apply makeup… and make us lazier in the process. While we got a glimpse of “green” beauty last year, eco-friendly makeup is predicted to reach even higher popularity in ’10 (yay Earth!), while natural nail shades like “Particuliere” and “Inattendu” from Chanel’s latest color library are about to take over. And lastly, if you’re dying to give your tweezers a break, you may be relieved to hear that brows are going bold this year — could eyebrow extensions be next? Vote below on which beauty trend you’re most excited to rock in 2010!

Ring In The New Year Like A Rockstar With These Amped-Up Beauty Picks!

imageIt might just be my inner Vegas showgirl talking, but when I think New Year’s beauty, I imagine sparkles, sequins, glitter, metallics — the works. But the truth is, when you’re already planning on blinging yourself out head-to-toe with sequin pumps, a brocade dress, and a sparkly headband (not to mention some statement jewelry), piling on full-blown stage-worthy makeup can end up taking your look from dazzling to just plain drag queen. My advice? You can still have countdown-festive makeup that twinkles without taking it overboard. Bright blue nail polish, foiled eyeshadow, and shimmery versions of your favorite blush are great ways to add impact and shine to your NYE look without overpowering your outfit. Best Tressed: Party-Perfect Hairstyles Inspired By Our Favorite Fashion Runways

imageSure, your dress and shoes are probably at the top of the list when it comes to New Year’s Eve outfit planning, but you might want to give some thought to your hair— even if you’re a strictly brush and blowdry kind of girl for the other 364 days of the year. Why not look to the runways for inspiration? The hair looks aren’t as high maintenance as you may think. From messy buns at D&G to bobby-pinned chignons at Carolina Herrera, there are plenty of ways to top off your NYE look. Not sure how to accessorize that figure-hugging dress? Perhaps sultry waves and a smoky eye a la Dsquared Fall 2009 are all you need. See the entire slideshow at Beauty Blitz!

Hot Beauty Buy: Chanel Makeup Case

imageI just got a new set of makeup brushes and a Chanel Makeup Case ($120 at Neiman Marcus) from my husband for Christmas. The case was inspired by the case the Chanel makeup artists carry and I love that inside there are lots of compartments and removable zipper bags. I can only explain it as a sort of makeup binder and storage tray. You can remove the makeup bags and brush holder as well as remove some of the dividers in the storage tray of the case. The first thing I noticed and adored is the lipstick divider. (You can see inside the case in this eBay post.) This is perfect for me because I have things in about 3 separate bags in different sizes. The case is a perfect size too — not huge like a train case or too small like my little zipper bag. Plus nothing is ever organized when I travel so I love that this will keep everything together including my cleanser and lotion. I was planning on exchanging the couple of brushes I already had but then I realized that the brushes I do have are about SIX or SEVEN years old. OMG! How did time fly? I do clean them with the MAC brush cleaner but not as often as I should. Honestly, I’ve cleaned them probably about 3 or 4 times. Gross, I know. I decided to Google and find out how often you should be cleaning your brushes and found this post by makeup artist extraordinaire, Bobbi Brown on the Allure magazine site where she explains how to clean your makeup brushes. Just set a reminder in my calendar to do this every month! How often do you clean your makeup brushes or refresh them with new ones?

Look Like A Pretty Ice Princess With These Frosty Makeup Picks!

imageAside from the obvious sage greens and cranberry reds, the holiday season also conjures up thoughts of cool shimmery shades — frosty lilacs, icy blues, and snowy silvers and opals. So if red lipstick really isn’t your thing, you can still go the frosty route with your beauty routine and look just as festive! The key to cool shimmers, like any makeup trend, is to stick to one part of your face at a time and not overdo it — you don’t want to look like someone double-dog-dared you to stick your whole face to a frozen telephone pole! If And the best part? These sparkly shades are perfect for New Year’s Eve, too, and are wearable enough to take you through the winter season! View the slideshow to see how you can ice-out your makeup for the rest of the season!
