Saying Hello To Wavy Hair For Spring!

imageBeing of the Asian race, I have naturally straight, sleek hair. I’m not bragging though, because while many people have expressed envy over how little hair maintenance I am required to partake in, I’ve been personally envious of all the girls that have naturally full, voluminous wavy locks. Since straight hair has been the style for the past few years, I’ve been able to keep my jealousies to myself, but they recently announced that natural waves and curls are the new hair trend for Spring. I’ve always wanted gorgeous, cascading waves of hair and took this opportunity to immediately rush out and figure out how to manipulate my stick straight tresses into soft, shining curls without having to use an entire can of helmet-inducing hairspray. If you’re lucky enough to already have wavy locks, a little bit of curl enhancer somewhere in the daily hair care process is pretty much all you need to do to have a stylish, luscious coif. For those in the same boat as me, we may be facing curling irons, setting creams, hair extensions and a few less snoozes in the morning. Hot In The Hive: Unii Cosmetics Makeup Palette

imageThere are plenty of moments where I say to myself, “why didn’t I think of that?” Founder of Unii Cosmetics, Minna Ha was frustrated by carrying a multitude of compacts when she traveled. She developed the Unii Palette which allows you to store all your favorite makeup products in one place. Minna’s solution is to depot your makeup (that means take the makeup pan out of the container), add a magnet to the bottom of the pan, place it in the palette, and you’re ready to go. Unlike other palettes, you’re not confined to specific pan sizes or brands so square pans and round pans can all live together in harmony. Minna even added a movable thumb grip so you can hold it with ease and the palette is even big enough to hold some slim makeup brushes. Depotting your makeup can be a little difficult so try it with an eyeshadow you don’t care about while following the included instructions. You can also find companies like MAC and Stila who sell individual refill pans which are more economical and eco-friendly too. Choose from five colors (my favorite is snow!) and buy multiples to organize by makeup looks and colors!

Price: $29

Make Up Forever Shows You How To Rock Joan Jett

imageAt first glance you might not think of Joan Jett as a beauty icon. But the more you think about it, someone had to start what has now become a classic rock and roll look. As the godmother of punk, her look is now being thrown on the big screen with the new biopic The Runaways. Kristen Stewart dyed her hair and chopped it into the perfect rock shaggy bob, but most importantly, she mastered the perfectly smuged smokey eye. Now you can too with the help from the flicks head make-up artist Robin Matthews and MAKE UP FOREVER cosmetics. Check out www.makeupoforeverusa/runaways to see videos of how to get Joan Jett€™s and her sidekick€™s Cherie Currie€™s ( Dakota Fanning) look. And that€™s not it, you can also enter to win a trip to New York for the March 17th movie premiere that includes all the rock star treatment.

Au Naturale Spring Beauty Trends Calls For Clean, Dewy Skin

imageFinally. spring is almost here! And as we shed the winter layers in anticipation for warmer, sunnier days ahead, don’t forget to start lightening the coverage on make up as well. Caked on powder and obvious cover up was never a good look and matte finishes are so last season. Spring is all about breezy, carefree days and the beauty of nature and all things reawakening. That’s why the new beauty trend for this spring is dewy, radiant skin and a clean, au naturale look. Glowing, clear skin is youthful and appealing and while I’m sure we’d all like to participate, some of us may be worried about still getting ample coverage while taking this ‘au naturale’ look out for a test spin. The first step is to keep skin moisturized to keep that fresh, dewy feel, like a tinted moisturizer. Cream blushes in soft pinks and translucent dusting powders complete the look and leave skin moist and radiant, but not oily looking. Click on the slideshow to see some of our favorite face care products and cosmetics that will keep you looking bright-eyed bushy tailed this spring season!

Which Rihanna Hairstyle Is Your Favorite?

imageOur favorite songstress from Barbados has certainly had her ups and downs. I’m not talking about Rihanna’s personal life these days but her hairstyles! She’s been seen since late last year with a interesting and surprising versatile hairstyle. The sides of her head are very short while the hair on her crown is dyed blonde and kept long. Quite the one note haircut, right? Nope! Rihanna promoted her latest album in November with her hair slicked to one side. The use of a hair serum like mark Salon Straight Anti-Frizz Serum would keep any frizz and flyaways at bay for a sleek look. In January, Rihanna relaxed at a basketball game in Los Angeles with her hair transformed into bouncy curls that seemed to match her happy mood. Lastly, she rocked out at a Super Bowl concert with an edgy outfit and hair to match. Her long sections of hair were spiked up into a mohawk with gel or pomade much like the Billy Jealousy Lunatic Fringe Hair Pomade found at Sephora. So tell me, which Rihanna hairstyle is your favorite? Image credit: PR Photos

Recession Chic: Multitask & Save With These 10 Multipurpose Makeup Picks!

imageThere are a few things in life I do not regret: 1) picking out all the Kit-Kats from the Halloween candy bowl instead of giving them to the trick-or-treaters, 2) telling my 10th grade English teacher that her gold lamé sports blazer looked like tin foil, and 3) stocking my makeup bag full of multipurpose products, like Nars’ Multiple Luminizer stick for example. For anyone who doesn’t have a compulsive cosmetics-buying problem like me, all-over color products not only help you save money with their multitasking abilities, but they’re also a cinch to use (especially when they’re finger-application-friendly or come in stick form), and conserve space in your purse! Get rid of your mini-collection of blush, lipsticks, and accompanying brushes and opt for a gel-based cheek and lipstain by Lorac. It’s sheer enough to look natural even with the most rushed and haphazard of touch-ups and requires no additional tools other than a mirror (or not even that, if you’ve had lots of practice)! Or freshen up in record time (and ease) with Josie Maran’s fingerpaints — a space-saving palette of cream eyeshadow, blush, highlighter and lipcolor all in one, no brushes necessary! For more superhero-worthy products that will help save your wallet from mass makeup-buying peril, take a look at the slideshow!

Beauty How-To: 10 Different Types Of False Lashes And What They Do For You!

imageNow that false eyelashes have really hit their height as a beauty trend and have become more everyday-acceptable than their exclusively-for-Vegas-showgirl roots, a falsies virgin can’t help but be overwhelmed by the endless array of styles that bombard her at the “beauty bar” every time she enters a Sephora. Aside from the obvious feather-embellished and loopy rainbow fringe courtesy of Shu Uemura’s Tokyo Lash Bar, even the multitude of natural lashes can appear crazily intimidating. Criss-cross, short and dense, long and tapered, sectional… why the heck are there so many different kinds, and why don’t any of them actually look like normal eyelashes at all? The first step in banishing the lash confusion is to have an open mind; what looks flashy or scary (and sometimes even spidery) in the package won’t actually look like that on your lids. And while this isn’t a step-by-step guide to applying lashes (still working on it myself — practice makes almost-perfect), it can help you with the first hurdle: choosing the right type to play up your peepers. And remember — as long as you treat them with care, they’re reusable, so you don’t have to spend on each individual use! So if you’re already armed with the desire for fluttery fringe and plenty of patience, check the slideshow for a selection of 10 different lashes and what they do exactly!

Get A Naturally Gorgeous Spring Glow With These Face Luminizers

imageEven if you’ve already gotten a head-start on counting down to Spring Break, it is only the first week of March, and your dreams of a summer tan are still officially a little premature. While you can easily resort to self-tanners and bronzers to achieve the deepened skintone that the sun can’t give you yet (it’s the safer way to go, anyway), it’s still a little early for the full-on sun-kissed look. As an alternative, face luminizers are the ideal product for transitioning from winter-dry to spring-fresh skin, and are perfect for the color-shy girls who haven’t yet mastered the feat of making bronzer look totally natural. Instead of deepening color, luminizers work with your own skintone to add subtle shimmer or light-reflecting radiance to emphasize cheekbones and give you that pretty spring dewiness in a way that doesn’t appear oily or shiny. They still give you the contour and glowing appearance of bronzer without the fear of piled-on color. Plus, since they’re mostly sheer, application doesn’t have to be perfect — in fact, many are designed to be rubbed in with your fingers for a more natural look. Take a look at the slideshow for a selection of products that’ll help you achieve the perfect springtime glow!

Hot In The Hive: Mark Pretty Wild Lip Gloss

imageWhen you have a lipgloss collection as impressive (see: ridiculous) as mine is, at some point you have to stop compulsively buying everything shiny and pretty and start forcing yourself to be a little pickier. Nowadays, instead of snatching anything new off the shelves in the beauty aisle, I stop for a minute to ask myself some vital questions. Is this lipgloss really more sparkly than a diamond? Will I actually magically transform into Adriana Lima upon application? Does this tube have the coolest packaging I’ve seen in a long time? In the case of this Mark Pretty Wild Lip Gloss, that last answer was an emphatic “OMG yes!” Okay so maybe it’s not the coolest, but the leopard print tube is ridiculously cute, so of course it’ll end up getting loads of use since I’ll constantly want to take it out of my purse and brandish it around in front of my friends. And it’s mint flavored, so it’s totally practical — I’ll save money on mints and gum. Sold!
