Beauty Pick Me Up – Haute Couture Inspired

imageIt’s Fashion’s biggest week with couture labels proudly parading their latest Spring 2011 collections down the runway. Intricate details, sumptuous fabrics and dramatic fanfare all add to the excitement, but it’s the runway beauty that’s are truly inspiring as a look that we can wear everyday ourselves!

Some of fashion’s biggest names have shown in Paris already and we love the runway make-up! From the bold lips of Dior and Armani Prive, to the emphasized cheekbones and subtleties of Chanel, we’ve chosen three of our favorite haute couture beauty looks from Spring 2011 and are showing you how to try them for yourself!

Click on the slideshow to see some fave picks!

The Bold Femme Fatale – Taking a cue from Dior’s couture show, this look is full of sex appeal and femininity with bold red lips, arched brows and liquid liner.

Keep skin flawless with a gentle exfoliating face wash and use just a touch of blush, if any, to let the bright lips and thick liner take the spotlight. Want your red lips to stay moist and last longer? Apply a thin layer of Carmex or Vaseline to lips before application.

The Woman of Power – Show them you mean business with this seriously sexy look inspired by Chanel. It’s all about the cheek bones so emphasis them by sucking in and applying a generous dose of matte foundation to the hollows, being sure to blend, blend, blend towards the temple. Add just a touch of rose gold tinted blush at the apples.

Keep the rest of the look subtle with thinly applied liner, a few coats of mascara and a nude/ pink lip.

The Natural Beauty – Take a cue from the fresh-faced natural beauties of Bouchra Jarrar’s couture show by subtly emphasizing what you already have! Keep skin tone even with a tinted moisturizer and a light dusting of mineral powder.

Brow tint and a lengthening mascara bring out the eyes while a pink-hued nude lip adds to the natural look. A light sweep of blush right under the apples of the cheeks finishes the look.

‘It is important to restore and lock in moisture by using oil-rich products that hydrate your hair and scalp and help protect it,’ said Janice Cox, co-author of ‘EcoBeauty – Scrubs, Rubs, Masks, and Bath Bombs for You and Your Friends.’

Halle Berry’s Deep Smoky Eye – A sexy, sultry look for any night out! Prep eyelids with a shadow primer to make sure your smoky eye stays smudged just the way you want it, and doesn’t later become a ‘panda eye’!

Sweep on a matte shadow of dark brown or a grey black over the lids and blend outwards. Choose a soft black liner and line along the top and bottom of eyes.

Blend with the provided smudge tip, focusing on smudging the corners outwards to create a more smoldering effect. Brush on your favorite volumizing mascara.

Emma Stone’s Glowing Neutrals – Make your eyes pop while keeping a natural look! Sweep on a pale champagne shimmer over the lids and up to the brow bone. Sweep a light bronze or sheer gold over lids, focusing more saturation in the crease.

With a freshly sharpened liner or gel liner, line the top of lids and half of the lower rim, making sure to connect the line of the top lid and bottom lid to create a small cat-eye. Curl lashes and brush on a layer of lengthening mascara to complete the look!

Carrie Underwood’s Luscious Lashes – Bat your lashes with this sexy, flirty look! Choose a light neutral tone and sweep onto lids and brow bone. Focus a darker taupe in the creases and line lids with a thin line of liner, both top and bottom.

Curl lashes and brush on a lengthening mascara that will separate lashes as well. Let it set for 60 seconds, and brush on a coat of volumizing mascara. Let is set for another 60 seconds and brush on a second coat of volumizing mascara. Use one coat of lengthening and one coat of volumizing for bottom lashes.

Beauty DIY – The Headband Braid

image

If you’ve followed recent celeb hair trends, you’ve probably come across the headband braid. Stars such as Ashley Olsen, Jessica Alba, and Sienna Miller have all rocked this infamous up do.

It’s feminine and sweet while keeping hair out of your face and can be worn as a casual style or with a dressier look. Try this quick hair fix that’s a great style for an after work date! No blow dryer? No problem! Try this daring ‘do that looks especially great with some ruby red lips!

The greatest thing about this chic coif is that you won’t need to see a stylist! You can do it yourself with some simple supplies you already have laying around!

Here’s what you’ll need

Between 3-5 bobby pins depending on the thickness of your hair, strong-hold hairspray, and a hair band.

Step 1 – Part hair in the center of your head and make two braids, one on either side. (Think Pippi Longstocking!)

Step 2 – Tie the bottom of one braid and hold the other.

Step 3 – Take the braid you are holding and bring it up around the top of your head, just behind your forehead, and secure the end down with bobby pins.

Step 4 – Repeat the last step, by placing one braid next to the other so that it slightly overlaps the bobby pins, and conceals them. Pin this braid down and put the pins in so that they fit beneath the second braid.

Step 5 – Spray your braided headdress generously with an extra strength hold spray. This will prevent it from falling apart while you’re on the dance floor!

‘You’ll want a soft smoky color like Laura Mercier’s Sateen Eye Shadow in Sable on lids first. Then smolder your eye by using a kohl pencil, and blend with a smudge brush upwards,’ instructs L.A. celebrity makeup artist Marina Gravani.
