I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that we’ve got a fresh new look for the blog. After a lot of coding, tweaking and generally making a mess of CSS, I’ve managed to get it to look half-decent (let me know what you think of it!) It still remains a work-in-progress. The goal of this redesign was to make it easier to get around and add some more color. After all, you know we’re suckers for color!
Last but not least, our large header incorporates the work of a featured artist. We’ll be featuring different artists in that space and rotating them over time to keep things interesting. This isn’t a sponsored spot, but rather a testament to our support of great artists. Our first feature is of the brilliant and witty Simon Oxley, one of our all-time favorites.
Enjoy!
Following yesterday’s Charcoal House story, here’s another of Terunobu Fujimori’s projects photographed by Edmund Sumner: this time Takasugi-an, a tea house in Chino, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. (more…)
Back in September of last year, we reported on one of the latest collaborations between Prada and Mr. Documentary Subject, Rem Koolhaas: the Prada Transformer, an ever-shifting building/art space/theater, um, thing (we’re also still guessing that it might be a big evil death ray). Fortunately, they started building the structure before the world’s pockets were emptied, so they’re still going to launch, which they’re planning to do on April 25th on the grounds of Gyeonghi Palace in Seoul. If you go, you’ll be able to see new skirts Miuccia Prada has designed, attend a film festival, and perhaps even destroy a small neighboring planet (if they do decide to reveal that it is, in fact, a laser cannon). The project has also just launched a new site (found by way of Archinect), showing off Rem talking to a group in a quick-cut video, lots of good photos, and additional information. Though before you buy that ticket to opening night, we recommend checking out the photo we’ve included up above (which is also available in a larger size on their site). We’re pretty sure it’s an architect’s model of the fashion exhibition, because it’s labeled as such, but because the people models and the (completely headless) exhibition models are the same size, it makes us a little worried. So remember, if you do go and you wind up getting beheaded, we warned you, okay?

For those of you who have been sitting on the edge of your seat since our last post in late-February about the slow going, touch and go saving of Robert Venturi‘s Lieb House, you’ll be relieved to hear that everything has moved forward and the residence will begin its travels from New Jersey to Long Island by barge along several bodies of water starting tomorrow morning, bright and early. Once it’s in the water, the trip is expected to take around a day and a half, landing in Long Island by Friday afternoon, where it will be greeted by Venturi himself, to make sure that nothing slips up now that everyone has gone to this much effort to save it. Also of note, if you’re up early on Friday:
After an overnight stay in Staten Island, it will pass under the Brooklyn Bridge on Friday between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
