Frank Gehry Tries His Hand at New York Once More with New Signature Theater Company Space

0825gehryvenice.jpg

After 2007, with his celebrated IAC headquarters opening its doors, New York hasn’t been too kindly to Frank Gehry. This year alone saw his Beekman Tower getting chopped in half and then his high-profile booting off of Atlantic Yards. But perhaps the old adage is right and the third time will be Gehry’s charm, as it’s been announced that the starchitect has been brought on to build a new space for the Signature Theater Company in Manhattan that will rest inside of the larger, multi-use Signature Center, which is being designed by Ismael Leyva and Miami-based Arquitectonica. So maybe it’s not along the same size as building an arena for Bruce Ratner and more along the lines of a much larger version of a nifty cafeteria in a new Conde Nast building, but hey, it’d be nice to have New York throw Gehry a project to finish for a change, right? His plans for the theater are expected to be revealed sometime this spring and construction to be completed by 2012.
