Tap Water™ Bottles

Toronto, I’m told, has a bit of reputation for high quality tap water, so it should come as no surprise that this amusing turn-of-phrase/eco-friendly business venture/all-around great idea originates in the Big Smoke. You may have seen these bottles around having recently been featured on packaging blog thedieline as well as a host of other design and lifestyle blogs. Order your bottle here or poke around the tap water™ website to learn more about why plastic water bottles are bad, bad, bad.

Kind of like a factory farm for humans, I’ve seen similar things in video games, however imagine if this actually worked? This is a concept design for “a combination farm-restaurant-hotel-amusement park, designed to accommodate 1,000 visitors a day”. Thanks to Fast Company for the link.

Whale Power

Pretty awesome blade design “inspired by the flippers of Humpback Whales” that has made it into the finals of the INDEX international design competition.

WhalePower has developed something truly remarkable – Tubercle Technology – which takes its name from the bumps on the leading edge of the whale’s flippers.”

I love this tv commercial from Spain. I really wonder what would happen if it was translated into English and played on TV’s in Canada? What do you think? What kind of response would it get in Canada? or the US?

Back-yard swimming pond

The aqua-blue swimming pool is an icon of suburbia, however a new idea is starting to gain traction: convert pools into natural “swimming ponds.” By eliminating the lips on traditional pools, and creating a miniature wetland around it, plants–rather than electricity or chemicals–can do the work of creating clean, clear water. Companies such as Clear Water Revival (shown above), Natural Swimming Pools, and Total Habitat create both brand-new ponds, and retrofit old swimming pools.

If only I lived in Michigan I would be able to drink water out of a carton and not just chocolate milk.

Two Hands At The Same Time!?

Well, not exactly. From what I understand, it’s part of an anti-nuclear campaign that was put out by Forum Nucleaire. The whole site is in french, but have a look for yourself. For a bigger viewer check here and give the full screen whirl. Really great video with nicely animated illustrations.
