New York Fashion Week F/W 2010: Malandrino
Posted in: UncategorizedFrench-born New Yorker Catherine Malandrino presented her Fall 2010 collection, titled “Kahn,” to a packed house at the Chelsea Art Museum. While the title left clues to the nomadic culture of Genghis Khan and the Mongolian people, Malandrino was inspired by “a vision of the earth seen from above.” The extensive 37-piece collection featured animal print furs, chiffon, textured knits, and embossed leather which were all layered together. Many of the tops and trousers were oversized and baggy but maintained a feminine quality with leather wrap belts at the waist. Airy printed chiffon dresses contrasted with the heavy fur coats. The tribal influence extended into accessories with bell-adorned jewelry and leather fringed bags. The shoes were the most interesting as they were made with distressed leather and almost resembled hooves. The models’ hairstyles were all swept up in top knots, while cheekbones were accented with dark contours and dramatic eye makeup was applied in a cat eye shape.
