Daily Obsesh- Frieda & Nellie’s Nostalgia Inducing Friendship Bracelets
Posted in: UncategorizedI may be rapidly approaching my 30’s, but I like to think I am still very much a tween girl at heart, even if the term “tween” hadn’t yet been invented when I was young enough to be considered one. However, as young at heart I as I may be, I am not one to wear Hello Kitty necklaces or plastic barrettes in my hair in an effort to wear my (young-at-) heart on my sleeve. I was therefore smitten when I discovered Frienda & Nellie’s one-of-a-kind friendship bracelets with a boho, grown-up twist which are a throw-back accessory I can wear without a hint of irony. These funky pieces combine the woven embroidery bracelets we made with our girlfriends back in grade-school with vintage rhinestone bracelets and necklaces. If only I had been so clever back in my days of playing dress-up. Frieda & Nellie’s friendship bracelets are hand-made by designers Stacy Herzog and Sarah Reid with the mantra of reuse, repurpose and reinvent. What started out as a side project of combining woven bracelets bought on a trip to the Galapagos with their grandmother’s (the namesake Frieda and Nellie) vintage rhinestone jewelry took off after Women’s Wear Daily named the girls an up-and-coming design duo early in 2010. Now, the one of a kind pieces are crafted out of vintage flea market and estate sale finds that are similar to their grandmother’s baubles. Earth friendly and cute-to-boot, I’m having a hard time deciding on just one. Check out the slideshow to see the pieces I’m lusting over and pick your favorite! |
