Fool-Proof Stovetop

It seems like every time I try to light the stove I always choose the wrong knob! Clearly, I’m not the only one because Caner Aras’ Eclipse Gas Cooktop makes it easy to navigate from knob to burner. The knobs themselves safely recess into the top when not in use, ensuring that one isn’t accidentally activated while working around the stove.

Double The Warmth

Inspired by the Asian idea that the earth was square and heaven was round, the Double Warm Multi-functional and Energy-efficient Coal Stove was conceptualized. It is designed to have a water-storage volume surrounding the furnace so that you can boil water while you use the stove for cooking. This hot water can be used for bathing etc. Nice idea, especially since it is aimed for the energy-starved counties where resources are expensive and scarce.

Set it and forget it!

Orb is a universal replacement stove knob that aims to make kitchens smarter. To tackle the problem of users forgetting about their stove being on, the design uses a series of “whistles” to periodically remind the user to check on the items being cooked. In the event that the user has become distracted and forgotten, the device will automatically rotate to the off position at the end of the cycle. Attachable to any stove, old or new, it transforms a basic appliance into a smart one!

A Life With The Stove

The Stove is an emergency stove that was inspired by the Great East Japan Earthquake of Japan. It basically is a design that allows you to use it for cooking and charging batteries. As the designer explains, “the wood or wooden pellets for the stove are environmentally friendly type of fuel that is easy to handle.” Although intended for earthquake prone Japan, the stove can find value in many other regions as well.

Cozy Cooking Stove

Angoria incorporates a new fabric surface to cooking food; it allows cooking and heating directly into a tissue, without any extra kitchenware. Inspired by the biomimetic process in a watermelon, the appliances aims to make cooking a convenience using minimum utensils and procedures. The designer explains the working process, after the jump.

“Graphene, recognized by its micrometric dimension, resistance, thermal conductivity and ability of sun power absorption, was selected as the material to generate temperature. PTFE, commercially known as Teflon, bears high temperatures, has a high index of liquid and grass impermeability and it is used as non-stick material in direct contact with food, especially in frying pans, becoming an ideal choice. With a visually pleasing texture, the trendy felt bears high temperatures and insulates energy produced by graphene, in the direction of food only. Besides that, it has a great liquid absorption capability that allows latent heat process, conducting the gradual energy loss to cool the content without any complex circuit. This means that, for an instance, when you plunge Angoria into water with a refrigerant can inside it, and then exposing it to sun, the vaporization allows the inner temperature to drop and cool the can.”
