Clever Kitchen Tray

The Smart Tray offers a lifestyle solution to those who live in cramped apartments and could do with fewer dishes in the kitchen. Aimed at the next-gen who prefers eating in front of the television, this kitchen appliance facilitates a more positive attitude towards housekeeping. The smart materials used in the tray allow it to be transformed into various dishes and are easy to clean at the end of a meal.

Cup Burns

Burning Cup offers a solution to reheating or microwaving your tepid coffee (or beverage) and losing its flavor. The cup prevents the drink from cooling down due to heat release to the outside. It uses sodium acetate to get the heat going. This what the designer says, “The sodium acetate contained in the inside of the cup design can regulate the heat of beverage. The liquid solution breaks the balance of liquid state with a tiny impact and hardens it solid, and it then generates heat momentarily.”

This heat generated by such an impact maintains the temperature of the beverage in the cup for a longer period of time. Every time you feel the beverage going a bit cold, simply crackle the sodium acetate from the outside once again and restart the heating process.

Water and Light

The ES Pipe Waterwheel concept works as a mini turbine to harness hydropower from regular water taps and converts it to energy. However this energy is for a specific use; to power specialized bulbs. The intended area of use is a country like Africa where there is severe power shortage. On paper, the idea looks good enough to execute, however how large scale can this go, remains to be seen.

ES Pipe Waterwheel is a 2012 IDEA awards entry.
