Fine Line Displayed

The M-Phone is a unique concept where the display real estate that can give the iPhone 5 a run for its money. However unlike the iPhone, there is a fine metal band that divides the display into two. The band slides up and down and depending upon the usage, it transforms one end into a keypad, gaming control or media controls. People were skeptic if a long slender display will go down well with mobile phone users. Given the way Apple is laughing all the way to the bank right now, such radical and elegant design concepts are the next step in evolution.

M-Concept is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.

Smart Pants Kanavos!

According to designer Alexandros Stasinopoulos, Kanavos is a study on smartphone design and it explores the visual interaction between hardware and software. It features a number of vertical and horizontal contrast color stripes and relies on the strong windows interface design. Basically the hardware, the OS and the interface blend and complete each other.

Kanavos removes the “windows” button from the front-lower-centre part of the device and places it to its left and right sides. This is to facilitate the easier access to this function while holding the device.

Wake Up Softly

Scroll through the alarm sounds on your phone & chances are you won’t find a single one that isn’t just a tad bit annoying. Not the most pleasant way to wake up! The Good Up amplifier aims to make the harsh sound a little softer so the user wakes up comfortably rather than abruptly. Simply place the phone in the polyethylene low density cone & it will muffle out high pitched sounds, emitting only the lower tones. No batteries required & no energy consumed. It’s kinda big, but whatever gets the job done right?!

Blue Experience Part 2

Tolga Tuncer’s first version for the Facebook Phone was radical enough, simply based on its design. He takes his passion with the social networking site a step forward with this new iteration. It features a compact aluminum casing and a slider phone. A highly centralized user interface with a real physical aluminum wheel embedded with a Like-Button makes the phone ideal for FB fans.

The wheel makes it easy to scroll within the Facebook timeline, News list ,Friend list and Photos without touching the screen. The wheel is also central point of Instagram’s filter selection and adjusting filter settings.

Lumigon T2 Smartphone

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Apple is still KING of hardware design when it comes to smartphones. Yes Samsung and HTC have beautiful phones but they lack precision and a refined elegance. The latest Nokias are stunning and in some cases, rival their fruity competitor in design. It seems the Scandinavians are the only ones that really know how to design a smartphone. Minimalism has pretty much become their domain and if the Nokias aren’t proof, check out the Lumigon T2.

It’s gorgeous and made of steel – yes you read right, STEEL. The body is perfectly smooth. The sides cleverly hide all the ports so all you see is a steel frame, strong enough for you to stand on. For serious! They even say so in the press release. Powered by a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor combined with expandable 8 GB of memory and you’ve got a middle to high end performing smartphone. All this with a coat of Android Ice Cream Sandwich on top.

The two most impressive tidbits are the audio and software. Audio comes from a Bang & Olufsen MS3 chip (thanks Dutchies!) and Android’s overly complicated and cluttered interface has been refined to sit somewhere in between iOS and WindowsPhone.

No idea how much it’ll cost but the T2 launches this autumn in Europe, Asia, and independent online shops. I can’t wait to get my hands on one for review. For now if you want more info, hit up the site and sign up for more info.
