Reel System, a MacGyver-esque On-Board Bicycle Storage System

Seoul-based industrial designer Yeongkeun Jeong (whose Butter!Better! design snagged Runner-Up in last year’s Core77 Design Awards) has created a rather flexible system of on-board storage for bicycles. Done in collaboration with fellow designer Aareum Jeong, the Reel system utilizes the triangle under the crossbar, but unlike other storage systems utilizing this space, can fit any triangle in any bicycle.
That’s because the user themselves simply creates the storage area by wrapping the elastic band around the three bars. Adhesive silicone dots keep the band spaced out at a distance of your choosing.
I dig the Reel’s MacGyver-esque let’s solve a problem with two very specific materials vibe, even as I wonder if I’m not letting that appreciation overshadow the pragmatic demands of such a system. Experienced cyclists among you: How practical would—or wouldn’t—this system be in actual riding, like on rough city roads?

G:: German is … a big good breakfast with egg and mustard, cereal bread, smoked salmon, jam, different cheeses and ham.
E:: entrance, when entering my home you will notice…a lot of white, a funny mix of individual things from flea markets, vintage shops, Ikea and of course Lilesadi.
R:: room, my favorite room in our home is…the balcony. I love to hang out in the weekends reading magazines or inviting people over for barbecue.
M:: memories I cherish are…my study time in Florence, my fun flatshare in the via della Robbia, wine on the piazza, aperitivo in the evening and laid back festivals during summer here in Rotterdam.
A:: addiction…mine is… jogging in the park near my house. I need to move every day, it gives me fresh energy and inspiration for the rest of the day.
N:: new, in my home is…the black and white carpet of Urban Outfitters I bought in Berlin and carried it the whole trip back to Rotterdam.
H:: hobby, I always make time for…guitar playing relaxing, Lindy Hop Swing dancing is my new passion. I found out that there is a really big scene in Rotterdam going on?
O:: outfit, my favourite thing to wear is…my poetic bird ring by Twinklebird, colourful nails and my leather jacket from Monki, it just fits to everything.
M:: magazines I love to read are…IDN, the Italian ELLE Décor, 101 Woonideen, Les Mads blog because I always get inspired by new stuff.
E:: enjoy, I can't live without…interesting, inspiring people around me.

2012 London Olympics Flame

Zipper Quality Sound
Posted in: earphones, Lucy Jung, ZipsoundIt’s not the first time that zipper functionality has been introduced to earphones. While earlier concepts only dealt with taking care of managing the earphones, this improvised version has some new features to it. For example, to control the volume of your digital player, simply slide the earphone line up or down, just like zipping up and down. To change tracks, you need to twirl the line either to the left or right. By employing intuitive gestures to control your device, the design has the potential to become a good product. Now only if we can figure out the engineering for it.

The Power of Z
Posted in: Jeongche Yoon, Z-FixieZ-FIXIE is a fixed-gear bicycle concept with polished Z-shaped frame. All the elements of the bike are connected to the Z-shaped frame. This includes the top tube, the seat tube, the bottom bracket and the chain stays. Designed to look uber cool and sophisticated, the design enjoys high stability from the traditional bike structure. Care has been taken to ensure that design is completely compatible with current components in the market. It even features perfectly harmonized integrated rear lamp and aero spoke wheels. Looks really cool, if you ask me!
