Workspace of the Week: Stunning studio

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Little Luck Tree’s breathtaking creative workspace:

Not only is this space well organized, but it’s inspirational. I can imagine creating truly beautiful things in this office. There is dedicated space for storage, designing, painting, and sewing — and all of it is done in a way to encourage items be returned when they’re finished. You can read a full description on Little Luck Tree’s website. Thank you for your beautiful submission to our Flickr group.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

For Nihon microsite

A quick mention of a nice little project for a good cause. For Nihon is a compilation album in aid of the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund: its microsite, designed by Luke Twyman at White Vinyl Design, lets users accompany a soundtrack by mousing over the names of contributors…

The For Nihon compilation features a host of electronic and ambient talent including Robin Guthrie, Ryuichi Sakomoto, Max Richter, Peter Broderick, Olafur Arnalds, Jon Hopkins and Dustin O’Halloran and will be released digitally and as a double CD. All of the proceeds from the sale of the compilation will go to the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund set up by New York’s Japan Society.

Camp Firebelly 2011

Firebelly Design has launched a call for applicants for its fourth annual Camp Firebelly, a ten day internship for ten young designers and graduates…

The Camp, which has a focus on working with non-profit organisations, takes place at Firebelly’s Chicago studio and provides successful applicants with the chance to “come together in advancing their skills and visions into tangible social good”.

Details of the various events that took place at the 2010 camp (which included working with Rosa Loves and Reason to Give; tackling various logo, poster and brochure projects, plus studio visits to Thirst and Threadless), are here.

Camp Firebelly “aims to connect fresh talent with real nonprofits in need,” say the organisers, and give young designers a chance to develop their professional skills within a working studio.

Applications to Camp Firebelly must be made by April 29.

The 2011 camp will run from June 20-29. More details at http://campfirebelly.com/.

UPDATE: The ten day internship costs $1,250 per person, which includes food and lodging. There is a deposit to pay on application (fully refundable).

Video Style Steal – Beyonce ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’

imageIt’s the queen ‘Bey’! And with one of her latest videos ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’, she reminds us why she’s the number one diva in the game!

In a retro-styled video filmed with era-appropriate graininess, Beyonce parades across the screen in one sexy, 50’s housewife inspired ensemble after another. High waisted short-sets (ok, so we can’t sashay around pants-less, but it’s a great look for swimwear!), cat-eye sunglasses and form fitting sweater and skirt combos transformed the gorgeous songstress from hip and edgy style icon to retro-clad sex kitten.

With her powerful vocals, strong female message and super cute ensembles, we’re inspired to rock the retro look for ourselves! You too? Watch the video then click on the slideshow for some of our fave ways to emulate her look!

Salone Milan 2011: Kiki Van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk for Dilmos

Dutch designers Kiki van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk are showing a mixed series of several large sculptural objects for Dilmos, using Murano glass.

Kiki’s series, “DRINK! EAT! FUN!! REST! THINK! DREAM! LOVE!” mixes traditional techniques like filigrane, mother of pearl, incalmo, and mirroring to create objects with a narrative quality—”still life” totems for things we forget. For example, without FUN! there will always be a dull moment. Kiki’s stories follow each objects in the series, pictured after the jump.

DREAM!
To dream or to have a dream is the most enchanting phenomena in life. This is what makes it a paradise. The upside down basket with refined wire structure combined with a mirrored bottle full of transparent bubbles from which shines a light symbolizes the dream.
