Butterfly Wall Hanger

pimg src=http://www.productdose.com/images/products/draft_5161.gif
alt= //ppMade of walnut and acrylic, this butterfly wall hanger reminds you that spring is only a couple of months away. It’s been dreary the last few days here in LA. There’s a reason we pay these high rents. I want my 72 and sunny./p

Plavis Design’s dynamic-looking thrones

plavisdesign-bathroom-ceramic-shift-2.jpg

I’m pretty slight of figure, i.e. light, but I don’t think I’d be comfortable sitting on a wall-mounted toilet; the potential for disaster seems too great. Still, it’s hard not to like this swoopy-looking toilet/bidet set from Italy’s Plavis Design. Be nice if they made a floor-mounted version….

Electrolux Design Lab 2009 competition: Designs for the next 90 years

It’s that time of year again. Not Valentine’s Day, we’re talking about Electrolux’s annual Design Lab competition:

The brief for the competition’s 7th edition is to create thoughtfully-designed home appliances that will shape how people prepare and store food, wash clothes, and do dishes over the next nine decades.

The design ideas should address key consumer insights such as being adaptive to time and space, provide learning and allow for individualization.

A limited number of finalists will be invited to participate in the final event in London September 24, 2009, to present their entries to a jury of high-level designers and experts. The jury will review the entries based on intuitive design, innovation and consumer insight and then select a winner.

The Design Lab 2009 has a First Prize of 5,000 Euro and a six-month paid internship at one of the Electrolux global design centers. The second prize is 3,000 Euro and third prize 2,000 Euro.

Entry deadline is May 31, 2009. Click here for more info.

Ring around the clever

0rings.jpg

While I’ll probably spend Valentine’s Day in my traditional way–doing shots at some bar with other singletons who missed the boat–some of you will be exchanging boxes of chocolates and maybe even rings.

Two neat ring concepts spotted on cool hunting:

Designer Yoon Jung Yun’s Inner Message Ring is meant to leave an impression, literally.

A few years ago a Korean singer wrote a song about the sunburn mark that he found on his finger after he broke up with his girlfriend and removed a ring he had been wearing for a long time. This is the story that inspired Jungyun Yoon to make ‘Inner message’, a ring with hidden letters on the inside. Inner message is a ring that leaves an impression on the finger.

Imagine that your lover giving you a ring that on the surface seems plain, but later when you take the ring off; it says, “Marry me.” Or imagine that even though you take off the ring to clean your hands you are still wearing an impression of the words, ‘always’.

On the other hand (no pun intended), the Two of a Kind Ring…

…is a minimalist piece of jewelry that still packs a sweetly sentimental punch. Designed by Dutch designer Frederik Roije and produced by Droog, “in breaking the ring an engagement with each other will exist.” We can’t think of a more elegant interpretation of a ring’s symbolism, though we imagine this one’s more suited to wearing on a chain than on a finger due to its size and fragility.

Michael Kors PU Watch

alt= //ppWhen it comes to watches, I consider myself to be ultra-conservative and traditional. The matte-black PU watch from Michael Kors is a perfect blend of traditional design with modern color scheme, making it perfect for any occasion.nbsp;/p

Homage Tees

homage-tee.jpg

Absolutely the softest tees we’ve found outside of the aged threads at Salvation Army are coming from Ohio. The appropriately named outfit, Homage, pays tribute to sports teams and so much more with their clever graphics and nostalgic sentiment printed onto brand new, worn-out cotton tees.

Homage began with a license to distribute Ohio State University gear, but with big aspirations and the desire to use tees as a platform for telling a story, Homage has grown into a full-on place to find blithe t-shirts that recognize everything from Ronald Reagan’s love of jellybeans to the serious blacktop talent Billy Hoyle and Sidney Deane showed off in “White Men Can’t Jump.” Watching the slideshow of black and white photos set to oldies tunes on the home page, you realize that the simple graphics are inspired by the people who inspired us, albeit for their fashion sense or for their achievements in music, sports, or entertainment.

When we received our shirts with a package of Big League Chew and Topps Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trading cards, we knew Homage was serious about preserving old school ideas while maintaining a humorous outlook. Their fresh concepts on slices of Americana are receiving much love from Japanese boutiques like Ships and United Arrows, but so far the tees are only available online in the States. (All are $32.) We have a feeling though it’s only a matter of time before everyone is paying tribute to Homage.

Unitasker Wednesday: Tootsie tanner

tootsie-tannerAll Unitasker Wednesday posts are jokes — we don’t want you to buy these items, we want you to laugh at their ridiculousness. Enjoy!

If you are constantly struggling with sock or sandal tan lines, this unitasker may be right up your alley. The Tootsie Tanner may have a pretty ridiculous name, but it serves a very important purpose. That purpose? Well, tanning your feet of course. How else does one get rid of those embarrassing foot tan lines? And, OMG, they are SO embarrassing!

Do you know any foot models? How about a friend with unsightly foot tan lines? Well, now you know what to get them for their birthdays.

From the product description:

Original The Tootsie Tanner was developed as a convenient mini foot tanning bed that can be used in the comfort of your home. If you play golf, tennis, jog or participate in any outdoor activity, there is an unattractive result: The Dreaded Sock Line!

With the Tootsie Tanner, you can attain a seamless tan from your legs all the way down to your tootsies. You can not control the amount of UVB (burning rays) from natural sunlight. This unit controls both the UVA/UVB ratio and your exposure time.
