Stephan Doitschinoff’s graffiti alias is Calma. This book with the same name presents the emblematic and spiritual paintings and murals that the Brazilian painter has emblazoned on houses, churches and walls in rural villages in his South American homeland. His metaphoric imagery feeds off Afro-Brazilian folklore, pagan and alchemic symbolism and contemporary pop culture. For the first time, Calma documents his artistic journey through these rustic areas and presents the complete visual pandemonium of a young urban artist who creates powerful figurative worlds.

Norwegian Box logistics company with divisions in both Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Estonia are in the process of building a network of delivery machines for web-shoppers. The idea is that your purchases will be available for pick-up from your closest MyQuickBox delivery machine within one or two days. At the time of purchase the system will send you a text message with the code to open the appropriate compartment in the machine of your choice. And if you have not already paid for your stuff on-line, the machine will be able to accept payment at the time of pick-up. We found one machine at the Gullmarsplan subway station in Stockholm today, but Box claims to have machines set up in Malmö and Göteborg, too. We found a small leaflet (detail above) next to the machine, where Box refers to a page on their web site, where they claim to have a list of web shops using their system, but the page does not seem to be up, at least not today. However, if you read Swedish, you will find a link on site to the scan we made of the leaflet with the text readable.brbr

We don’t know about you, but we prefer to bring our bikes into the apartment rather than leaving them in the street or even in the bike shed. We feel safer that way. There’s an incredible number of bikes stolen in Stockholm. The biggest problem with having bikes in the apartment is of course that they take up a lot of room. No matter how close to the wall you put it, the handlebar sticks out anyway. However, designer Joe Wentworth has made an effort to solve this problem with his concept for a folding handlebar. We like. Now we’ll have to wait and see if it’s going into production.brbr

Giusy si è occupata della redazione del magazine, e mi ha inviato un paio di articoli su alcuni dei progetti più interessanti scaturiti dal workshop, che di seguito pubblico integralmente.

Come il design può riflettere l’altalenarsi delle stagioni? Matteo Mocchi e Luca Poncellini docenti del NABA, con il loro gruppo di lavoro hanno pensato a questo. Sedia e tavolo in canne di bambù, che nella stagione di massima fioritura siano luogo in cui contemplare il paesaggio, e in inverno, quando le coltivazioni non sono presenti sul terreno, siano elementi fuori scala che risaltino fra le colline. Ecco la risposta alla questione stagionale: design di stampo domestico in primavera con caratteristiche giacomettiane in inverno.
Fuga dal parco
Due poliziotti rincorrono lungo il percorso nel parco lineare di San Michele di Ganzaria un folle inquinatore. Il criminale se la svigna prima nell’arena poi nella cascina abbandonata. L’inquinatore cerca di far perdere le proprie tracce e dietro di lui scorrono la sedia e il tavolo fuori scala dei picDesigners. Si possono notare anche le istallazioni di Armin Shubert, Francois Mechain e Monica Cuoghi, artisti che hanno saputo rimarcare con una poco comune profondità il paesaggio siciliano. L’inseguimento si fa sempre più serrato, fino ad arrivare ad una conclusione inconsueta: l’architetto che ha pensato il parco lineare fa secco il delinquente.
Ottima strategia pubblicitaria messa a punto da Simone Muscolino e il suo team durante il workshop “picNic al Tempio” svoltosi dal 6 all’11 maggio.
Nereus è il concept dell’aggressivo scooter d’acqua progettato dal designer tedesco Mathias Koehler. La forma aeronautica e seducente è frutto delle particolari caratteristiche del mezzo, in grado di immergersi sotto il livello dell’acqua per brevi periodi, e di essere trainato da una vela per creare un nuovo tipo di esperienza sportiva, a metà tra il kite surf ed il diving.
Un progetto un po’ esasperato, e tutto da verificare in fase di produzione, ma che potrebbe riscuotere grande successo tra gli appassionati o in qualche film di Hollywood.
