This week’s Workspace of the Week is Jacob’s graphic design studio:

Jacob’s office is a wonderful example of how to arrange a desk when you have two separate needs for your work space. In this case, there is drawing work to be completed on the Wacom Intuos 3 tablet on the right side of the desk and more traditional office work and digital image manipulation to be done at the computer on the left. Instead of trying to fit it all into the same space, Jacob has literally made two workstations, separated by a filing drawer, with two separate desk chairs. The long desk is a great way to address this issue, and with the pieces from Ikea it isn’t an incredibly expensive solution. The cable management is also nicely done, especially since the more than six pieces of equipment all come with multiple cords. There is also something very pleasing about the two tiny trees by the monitor being the only real decoration in the space — tiny trees! A basket or bowl for the pocket contents might be a nice addition, but certainly not a requirement since I imagine these things don’t remain on the desk after Jacob stops working.
