An unrivaled information clearinghouse, Google and its many subsidiaries (YouTube, Blogger, etc.) are private. Still, governments seek data from Google’s vast database for investigations, sometimes even requesting permanent removal of content they deem offensive or inaccurate. Google makes these activities public.
Using the stats, Good and Mgmt. Design made an infographic of governments that ask for the most data about their users and the most deletions from Google’s database—as well as how frequently the search engine hands it over. Brazil leads with the most requests for user data, with the United States not far behind. China, on the other hand, keeps such procedures secret. (For full size, click here.)
