When Doodling for Google, the Skys the Limit

doodleset.jpgRound up the nearest youngsters and arm them with art supplies, because it’s time for the annual Doodle 4 Google contest, in which K-12 students from around the country compete to redesign the Web giant’s homepage logo (currently featuring Olympic-themed doodles). Our friends at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum are once again in on the fun, and the work of the finalists and regional winners will be exhibited at the museum. This year’s doodling theme is wide open: “If I Could Do Anything, I Would…” Our advice to the young designers? Bust out the Prismacolors and go meta, creating a doodle around the dream of designing the Google homepage logo.

Besides a one-day spotlight on the Google homepage and a swarm of media attention, the grand champion doodler will receive a $15,000 college scholarship and a $25,000 technology grant for his or her school. This year’s competition also includes a $10,000 award to recognize the school district with the greatest-quality participation (superintendents do love an incentive). Get all the details and start feeding the kids “ideas”, because registration closes on March 17 and entries are due by March 31.
