Wanted: Design Director to Blind Them with Science
Posted in: UncategorizedDo you excel at explaining phenomena ranging from plate tectonics to nuclear fission using only a pen and a dinner napkin? Read Nature for the figures? Doodle double helices—and their accompanying nucleotides? Then listen up, because Science News is looking for a visual Einstein to lead and supervise the design and production staff for its magazine and website, which are published by the Society for Science & the Public in Our Nation’s Capital. As design director, you’ll also commission and direct freelance artists, conceptualize and lay out the magazine, manage the art budget, and liase with the printer. Need you be able to tell xylem from phloem, ventricles from atria, a chupacabra from an exasperated kangaroo? “A background in science is not required,” notes Science News. “But intellectual curiosity about science and comfort with scientific ideas is essential.”
