Wallace and Gromit star on Christmas stamps

With the Pope campaigning to ‘save Christmas’, the Royal Mail’s seasonal stamps for 2010 will feature two mythical characters whose story has been told and retold down the years so that it is now central to the communal experience of that special time of year – Wallace and Gromit

A somewhat defensive press release from the Royal Mail, no doubt anticipating a Daily Mail headline or two, states that “Royal Mail’s policy for Christmas stamps is to alternate non-secular and secular themes. The 2009 stamps showed the nativity as depicted in stained glass windows from the Pre-Raphaelite era and in 2010 a secular theme is featured” ie ‘Wallace gives a thumbs-up as Gromit tries on his seasonal gift of a bone-themed pullover’ as featured on the £1.46 stamp, below.

The stamps were created by Royal Mail’s design team, working with Nick Park and Aardman Animations. They will be available from November 2.
