If you’re looking for some old and surprising artwork out of Japan, check out this collection of Japanese expo posters from the 1920s to the 1940s. Though they were never a communist nation, the posters combine the old-school commie aesthetic with Asian influences in a way we’ve not seen before, and contain a bizarre mish-mash of militaristic images, fantasy elements and even Art Deco:
