I scream, you scream, we all scream for Marc by Marc Jacobs. And ice cream.
Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is back (remember all the fun we had last year?)—thanks to Vogue, Mayor Bloomberg, the City of New York, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and armies of exceedingly well dressed elves. This year’s retail-boosting celebration features events worldwide, but we’re focused on the flagship FNO taking place tonight in every fashionable nook of New York City. Today, between stops at the tents, we’ll be sharing with you our top ten ways to spend FNO in NYC, whether you’re on a mission to freshen up your fall wardrobe, party ’til you can rationalize a new Jil Sander coat, or just stalk Tom Ford. We begin, of course, with dessert:
Eat ice cream with Marc Jacobs. What would fashion be without Marc Jacobs and ice cream? Cast such thoughts from your mind and head to Bloomingdale’s in Soho (504 Broadway), where delicious baubles from the fall Marc by Marc Jacobs jewelry collection will be sold from an ice cream truck (pictured) customized by artist Will Broome. Follow your purchase of whimsical earrings shaped like tiny golden owl heads with a free cone. Meanwhile, at Bloomingdale’s uptown flagship (1000 Third Avenue), shoppers can decorate cookies with Tadashi Shoji. Impress the designer by arranging your frosting and sprinkles with a nod to the Renaissance frescoes of Piero della Francesca, Shoji’s inspiration for the spring 2011 collection that will take to the runway this morning at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Meanwhile, more frozen novelties await at Lord & Taylor (424 Fifth Avenue), where the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream truck will be idling, and Odin (199 LaFayette Street), which will serve up special Brooklyn Brewery Brown Ale and honey-flavored ice cream created by designers Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos of Shipley & Halmos in collaboration with Guerrilla Ice Cream.Load up on letterpress. Put down the ice cream and pick up some vintage-inspired accessories at Fossil (530 Fifth Avenue), which will spotlight artists featured in its Long Live Art project. Jim Sherraden from famed print house Hatch Show Print will be creating custom letterpress art from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. and also giving away original works as a gift with any $100 purchase. Another Fossil outpost (38 West 34th Street) will host the crafty Dolan Geiman, who creates work from vintage and recycled materials. Stop in to watch him screenprinting custom art all afternoon.continued…
