The UK James Dyson Award goes to the Automist, by RCA students Yusuf Muhammed and Paul Thomas. The concept is of a (retrofittable) kitchen sink faucet that disperses a thorough mist in the event of a fire, effectively dousing the flames. Check it out:

Muhammed and Thomas will divvy up 10,000 pounds in prize money. While we’re a little sad that runner-up Min Kyu Choi’s brilliant folding plug didn’t win, with over 60,000 house fires happening a year in the UK alone, the Automist is a product that can surely make a difference.
