Today Marks the End of the Endless Michelle Obama Designer Watch
Posted in: UncategorizedWe’ve been looking forward to inauguration day for quite some time. Sure, because it’ll be such an important historical moment, but largely so we can stop hearing all the speculation on which designer Michelle Obama has chosen to wear tonight. It’s been months of interesting, yet exhausting filler, like from this piece from the San Jose Mercury about bringing style back to the White House via the First Lady (with some speculation about who Michelle will chose) or this story from the Houston Chronicle going over the history of inaugural gowns and the designers who created them (with some speculation about who Michelle will chose). And when that isn’t clicking, there have been pieces like this in the Baltimore Sun about what a difficult job the Obama’s new interior man, Michael Smith, is going to have in a new home not very conducive to standard design practices. Again, all interesting for sure, we’re just worn out and ready to move on. Though from time to time, reporters are getting some stories out there, which while still peripherally related feel like a breath of fresh air, like this one about who Obama’s poet, Elizabeth Alexander, has chosen to design her outfit for today: designer b. Michael.
