This Just Inbox: Mist-o’s bird-related furniture designs
Posted in: UncategorizedMist-o is a new-ish design partnership between Tommaso Nani + Noa Ikeuchi based in Milan, Italy. So far they have been producing lighting and furniture that seems to be based loosely on the gestures of birds, including the Nest lamp and Flamingo bookcase shown above.
Nest is made by bending a perforated steel sheet around a bulb, creating a simultaneously closed and open space. The perforations act as a screen, obscuring the bulb while also allowing light to filter through. Equally simple, the elements of the awkward-in-a-good-way Flamingo bookcase support one another through gravity. The acrylic shelves and lime tree dowels fit together just so, and as more is added, the more stable it gets.
We love the illustrations for each of these projects. They remind us a little of the drawings of Achille Castiglioni’s projects commissioned from Matteo Guarnaccia by Paola Antonelli. For example, here’s Flamingo:
Finally, Mist-o is also be up to some new, non-bird-related work, like Fachiro, a stainless steel dish suspended on a mass of pin-shaped legs.
More images and projects after the jump.
