The Gigantic Robot

Tom Gauld will publish a new 32-page comic this summer entitled The Gigantic Robot. It’s a fable concerning the production of a secret weapon whose promise apparently goes unfulfilled…
“I originally designed the robot for a poster for a metal festival called ZXZW in Holland,” says Gauld. “I was trying to make an image which was a cross between something out of a computer game and a Hogarth engraving.”
“After that I found wanted to do more with him as he’s powerful but also sort of tragic looking. I later made a screenprint of him for earlygriffin.com and finally came up with this story.
“I don’t really want to give too much away about what happens in the story as the book is very minimal – 16 pictures and 13 lines of text – but hopefully it’s funny and sad.”
The boardbook sports a silver cover and is printed in two colours throughout. It will be published by California-based company, Buenaventura Press.
Gauld will have a limited supply of advance copies of the book for sale at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art festival in New York on 6 and 7 June.
