The Farthing bicycle design isn’t dead; it’s getting smaller and electrified

The foldable Yike Bike is something like a unicycle with a training wheel, powered by an electric motor. The 21-pound device has the handlebars located to either side of the seat, presumably to cut down on its profile, and has a range of 10 kilometers.

The shape of the bicycle is referred to as a “Mini-Farthing,” after the original Farthing bicycle that you rode if you had a handlebar moustache and enjoyed looking silly.

The Yike Bike will begin shipping in mid-2010, with a price of just under 4,000 Euros. To see the thing in action, you will unfortunately have to sit through this video below, which seems to have been produced by a karaoke video director:
